At the level you are working with, I'd definitely make sure to get some in home demos.
The ARC Ref, the CJ ACT2/series 2, the Aesthetix Callisto and say, the BAT VK-52SE are probably four of the best preamplifiers money can buy, but I guarantee that you will prefer the sound of one over the other. There are other choices as well, but those four are all fantastic.
A very big part of making this work is going to be table/arm/cart/phono pre synergy. Once you find the right combination, you will be very excited about what's lurking in those CLX's!!
Much like driving an Audi, BMW, Mercedes or Lexus, you will really dig one of them.
As far as the phono preamps go, the two most musically revealing and dynamic that I've heard so far have been the Aesthetix IO (especially with both power supplies) and the Naim Superline with SuperCap2 power supply.
Next on the list would be the CJ TEA-1 and the BAT VK-10SE, then I'd put the ARC PH7, Nagra VPS, ASR Basis Exclusive, Aesthetix Rhea Signature and Rega Ios.
The PH7 is a good phono stage, but it does not have the sheer weight and dynamics of the Aesthetix Io or the Naim with the SuperCap2. It certainly sounds like you have the system and room to acommodate this good of an analog front end, so I'd highly suggest some in home demos.
Turntable, I'd put my money on that SG-2. Even after having the Continuum here, the SG-2 was again, more organic and musical sounding with that huge, airy presentation than the Continuum. Another great table in that realm is the SME 20/12.
However, if you can get the chance to experience the HRX from VPI, it may be your cup of tea, especially with the CLX's and Krell amps, you might find the HRX (depending on cartridge) a little to dry for your tastes, but again, it might be just what the doctor ordered.
But I can't suggest the SG-2 high enough. It is one of the most musically involving tables I've ever heard at ANY price and certainly the most rewarding table I've had the opportunity to review...
Good luck on the hunt!
