I went to Sydney last week, and as always had an audio smorgasboard!

The highlight of my time was the CLX of course - wow - the most amazing 'Logan I've ever heard. But to compare to the ADAM Tensor Alpha......I should do a full review/comparison in another section of the site, but suffice to say I'd have a hard time choosing! The ADAM is far more expensive, but bear in mind two things - 1: no subs needed and 2: it's active, so no amps needed either.

The CLXs were with two MBL 9011 amps, a Burmester 069, 808 preamp and 948 power conditioner and .............wait for it............Clearaudio Statement! I could do a full review on the Clearaudio alone -- it's the most amazing bit of engineering I've ever seen.......!!

I was having so much fun I forgot to snap pornpics for the MLOC.......when I was on my way out (way, way late for an awaiting arrangement and an angry wife on the 'phone) I ran back and snapped this with my mobile phone. Sorry for the quality!

Adam, does this mean that a Clearaudio is in your future? ......feeding the ARC PH7, of course !

I'd *LOVE* it to be in my future. Actually, there was a PH7 in the room, but I listened to it through an Aesthetix Rhea. Still not half bad! The we realised the Burmester had a phono stage and used that.

So which are you going to buy, the CLX, the ADAM, the Clearaudio, or the whole blinking lot:) Er...

Be very interested to know what you thought re: CLX versus ADAM. I've heard those ADAM's twice, but never in a good setting with decent music.

"The whole blinking lot" wouldn't be half bad! Maybe in 20 years when I can buy second-hand.......?

As for the ADAM Tensor Alpha v CLX - really - hard time choosing. The ADAMs are more expensive by a long shot so let's get that out of the way first. I guess what I mean is we're not really comparing apples with apples. I also didn't listen to them at the same time, side by side. The ADAMs are also more extended in both directions. Whether an effect of the extension, I also preferred the ADAMs at the frequency extremes, but they are also a bit "monitor" sounding and could be a bit cold for my liking in the long term compared to the CLX. Being active, this could also be amplifier related. The CLX had that "stat-magic" we all know and love and this was missing from the ADAMs. The CLXs sounded more like real instruments for strings and piano particularly. Viola and Violin were amazing and just floated in space. Soundstaging though was overall better from the ADAMs, but that could be setup related as the ADAMs were in-situ for weeks when I heard them and the CLXs were still responding wildly to minor room movements.

If pressed, I'd go as to say the CLX is the better speaker from about 150Hz - 12,000Hz (read upper bass to the top end of mid-treble) and the ADAMs are better either side of that.

Also worth noting, I didn't hear the CLX with a couple of Descent is......

What would I buy? ADAMs, or CLXs AND two Descent is AND and a swathe of MBL (or ARC) amplification?????

Too tough to call - and just for now I'm glad I don't have to make the decision. A decision I also wouldn't make without hearing Statement e2 and Avalon Sentinels......The ADAM is also available in "semi-active" as well (read: like our Summits with powered woofer only), but I didn't hear that and I'm not aware of the price.

Amey you lucky sod, I was at audioconnection last week, and saw all the gear in that amazing room. Unfortunately nothing was connected up so I did not get a chance to hear anything.

The clx's looked small compared to the wilson X1's, and the clearaudio statement - wow!!!!!!!

Did not stop me from walking out of the shop with an integra DHC 9-9 pre pro and an anthem 5 channel amp :)

You should have phoned ahead and asked for a listen!! You can't go there without planning something! Especially since we live in the audio deprived desert they call Queensland........Yes - the CLXs did look small and decidedly low-end for that room! I was tempted to pull the MBL 101s out as well, but even with the best part of a day there I just didn't have time......I was having too much fun with those CLXs!!

Congratulations on your purchases - when are you going to post pics?

I walked out with diddly-squat.

I'm setting up everything this weekend, so I can put up a couple of photos. after that

Apparently the wilsons and the MBLs and the clearaudio statement in that roon came from a 1 million dollar repossesion of a customer who went bankrupt. I so dearly would have loved to have heard the CLX.

Did you see the giant wilson subs outside, they make my REL B1 look absolutely miniscule.

Actually Bernard, there were REF 610Ts in the room as well, but they weren't on wheels and I really didn't want to waste?? a precious hour waiting for them to be set up!! The MBLs were in-situ so I settled for second-best!

Wish I had more pics for you all!

Sad economic times we live in. I must have missed the giant Wilson subs......not that I'm really interested in Wilson anything. I couldn't miss the big Alexandrias in the room though, they were set up, but quickly pushed out of the way to make room for the CLX!
