Quick question.. would the 5.1 analog outs be that much better? I'm really resisting spending another $300 in cables to do the analog 5.1 from my DVD player to my Rotel AVR. The DTS is a nice option for DVD-A's encoded with this option. I also know that I am not getting then full quality and effects for SACD.

I know that I will need to go the analog route sooner or later.. guess I just need that extra little push.
Consider yourself Pushed ;)

Yes, it’s worth the extra hassle, as the difference is not subtle IMHO.

Also, you can get better value cables from http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/6channel/index.htm
For around $115, they work very, very well.

This is a treat and a recommendation

I'd picked up some new vinyl this week and listened to it yesterday, but it was so good I'm spinning it again today. The first one is Amiee Mann's wonderful album "Bachelor No. 2" and it sounds superb (yes better than the CD) on this Mobile Fidelity pressing. I don't want to shortchange this great album, but the other one is so special I wanted to share it with everyone here.

I'm not much of a country music fan, and by extension I'm also not a huge fan of bluegrass. I have over the last few years however become a fan of people like David Elias, Nickle Creek and the subject here, Alison Krauss. Let me just cut to the chase, if you even remotely like acoustic music and the human voice, shut your computer off now and go buy "Alison Krauss + Union Station Live".

Imagine sitting in your living room having a conversation with some dear members of the family that you haven't seen for a while. This experience is similar except that they are doing all of the talking and they just happen to be world class musicians. This music is warm, engaging, intimate, communicative and peppered with occasional leaps into fireworks of amazing virtuosity. Ms. Krauss has a voice that matches her appearance - that is to say very pretty, and she manages to play the "fiddle" in such a way that it doesn't sound like a vulgar word for "violin". While every person in the band is incredible, Jerry Douglas on Dobro is a true standout. Alison introduces him prior to one song as "the greatest dobro player in the world", and this recording should serve as ample evidence. Two of the songs that were on the "O Brother Whereart Thou" soundtrack appear here in rousing form - both "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow" and "Down to the River to Pray", the latter in stunning acapella. I'd also recommend this album on the strength of "New Favorite" alone with muted guitar strums counting out the heartbeat of the woman who finds she's been replaced by another and the aching cry of Jerry Douglas's dobro replicating her weeping. This is simple, powerful music.

This was recorded live to DSD, and I've had the SACD for a while, where it's very well served. I believe it's also available as a DVD. So why am I so excited about it now? Well, because Mobile Fidelity has done such an extraordinary job of turning out a 3 disc gem of vinyl glory on this one that it stopped me dead in my tracks that's why. Don't get me wrong, this is great music no matter what format you're going to hear it on, but this is one of those incredible issues on vinyl that collectors will want to go snatch up in multiples - one to listen to, and one to keep as an investment. This is classic audiophile PORN!!! Dead quiet surfaces (as silent as the SACD I $hit you not!), HUGE soundtage with incredible location and palpability of each person as a fleshy body in real space, and tonal shadings galore, the kind that make you shiver. Rosin of bow on string, with glorious decay, the slap of a pick against guitar strings, the metalic buzz of the dobro and an occasional percussive WHACK of the kick drum that startles you and at once makes you laugh in that giddy way that tells you THIS IS WHAT MUSIC SOUNDS LIKE! I defy you to keep your toes from tapping, to keep from smiling or on occasion from holding back a tear. This is GREAT music making available in a GREAT format. I would use this album to demonstrate why anyone would want to go get a turntable - it's that good.

I'm listening to Mia Jang's Piano Solo CDs: Water Circles and Sweet Dreams. I highly recommend them for anyone who loves soft, romantic piano music.

I also second Mitt's recommendation of the Allison Krauss / Union Station "Live" disc. I have the CD and DVD versions of this and it is definitely a ML demo disk if there ever was one. I can only imagine how good MoFi's version is. I wish they would put out an SACD version of their remastering. I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Sorry Dave, it was a grand concert for sure. :D You'll see her someday soon, I've got a good feeling about it. ;) I second your recommendation. I have been listening to everything I own by Madeleine Peyroux, non stop since the concert; "Half The Perfect World", "Careless Love", DreamLand as well as "Got You On My Mind" by William Galison and Madeleine Peyroux. It's like I don't want her performance at the concert to end, really... Meadeleine's songs are all excellent Sunday morning listening.

Interesting you should say that Tim, my Elusive Disc order should arrive early this week and guess what's in it ?? !!!!

ROFLMAO! I used to be SOOOO into ABC. I still like them. I have both "Lexicon of Love and "Beauty Stab" (which I actually like better) on vinyl downstairs. May have to pull them out now!

Yeah.. ABC & Spandau Ballet!! The "New Romantics" of the 80's. I really like them too. ABC's stuff has all been re-mastered. I just ordered all of them from cduniverse along with ELO's "Out Of The Blue" which has also been remastered and is being re-released on Feb 20th.

The RHCP "Californication"; LA 4 "Just Friends"; Big Joe Turner "Still the Boss of the Blues.

Steely Dan ~ The Royal Scam

I find Steely Dan is a great way to show off the Summits when friends come over... great recordings, and crisp music show off any MLs !!! GREAT CHOICE theWB

Now that is some AWESOME music, great memories!! before I had to worry about taxes :p

Man can I relate to that! Kind of miss those days...just going to classes, making good grades, being cool in my sports car... No worries, just fun! Don't get me wrong, I like having ML's and I certainly didn't have anything like that then, but there is just something about being a student and having mom and dad to worry about the BIG STUFF! Ah, the good old days!
