Maybe it's what I and others have suggested in the past.

A Summit panel that is 6" or so higher and wider than the current model. That makes sense "size wise" to be between the current Summit and the CLX.

I don't think it will be priced at $15K.

hahaha.... So what is the magic price-point here Gordon? My assumption is this is not a CLX replacement.... unless of course you believe it to be..... maybe 2500 more 17500? Just let me know if I am warmer or colder!!! :) I feel like I am playing the 'higher/lower' game on the price is right.....

Anyway -- I am trying to take something from the ad.... and having a little fun....
This is my interpretation of the ad:

1) Looks like a summit X in the background .... to be replaced by.....
2) what is behind curtain #2.
3) The word 'Evolution' -- would indicate evolvement (is that a word?) ... from a) The CLX design panel/mid-bass -- plus b) force forward subs...
4) and does this evolution mean that the lower models - i.e. montis/theos etc... start taking on this same characteristic/panel design at some point...i.e continuing the evolution.

of couse... I could be COMPLETELY way off base... hahaha... but that is the fun of it....

And Justin -- I don't want to hear how your Apogees blow away the new model...... :)

This might mean more CLX's on the used market and hopefully a better center speaker

Might just be a CLX replacement and perhaps somebody knows something because right now there are three CLX's for sale on the GON right now, which is highly unusual at least in the six months or so that I have been checking.

Talk about insider trading. And I got my forecast right

I don't think it is a replacement for the Summit X for a couple of reasons. One, Peter specifically said that we wouldn't see any replacements for the Summit X this year. Two, they jumped the price up quite a bit from the Summit to the Summit X. This one looks to be a lot bigger and you would expect another big price jump above the X. I just don't see them doing that with the same model twice in a row. There is enough room at the high end to stick in another model between the X and the CLX, or maybe even above the CLX, in price. No need to discontinue the very popular Summit model at its price point right now.

It will be interesting to see if it is just a bigger-paneled Summit X with more powerful woofers and DSP control (my preference), or whether it in fact does use the hybrid panel of the CLX for highs/mid bass and a woofer box for the lows and has more than one crossover point. Basically, a CLX with a woofer box to take care of the lows and slam that the CLX doesn't deliver without subs. This would put it above the CLX in the pricing chain. Either way, it should be a really interesting speaker.

One thing I do note looking at the picture (and thinking of a conversation in another thread) is that it doesn't appear to have the severe rearward panel rake of the Summit X. Honestly, in the picture it looks like they have a curtain draped over a Prodigy. Maybe that's what we are getting. A Prodigy II. That would be freakin' awesome!

Edit: OK, since we are making wild predictions, that is going to be mine. We are getting what the Summit should have been in the first place: a true successor to the awesome Prodigy. Larger panel with vertical rake, serious woofer box with two large woofers and internal amps, and DSP control.

I have info that it will be significantly more than CLX price wise! I think Rich's description sounds likely...looks like one large hybrid under there
It will be powered by Moon Simaudio electronics at the show so that can only be good. No bias of course!!
Fascinating.

So, maybe my initial guess is correct. A new flagship with the requisite price tag to compete with the "big boys".

PS: I'm thinking that the Summit is in the background to provide a "relative" size difference and what we are seeing is one speaker, not two.

I wonder if ML will announce other speakers at this show, such as Theos, Ethos or Montis replacements or will they wait until CEDIA ?

If they cost more than the CLX, they better perform near perfectly and look awesome. Lots of competition from Soundlab, Maggie, etc. at a much lower price point. And the market for high end panel speakers is probably a lot smaller than that for high end point source speakers. Let's face it, these are basically just hybrid electrostatic speakers. Nothing from a cost of manufacturing point of view to justify astronomic prices in my mind. If they cost more than $25k, I would expect sales numbers to be pretty small. If they are around $20k and have a performance combining the forceful presence of the Prodigy with the seamless woofer integration of Summit X, they could sell like hotcakes.

You're right. I don't. What I'm saying is if they are that price, they had better blow them away, which I think is unlikely. Jonathan Valin had this to say about the Soundlab M-1:

I guess you can tell that I love these things. Along with the PipeDreams, the Maggie 20Rs, and the Avantgarde Trios, the M-1s are among the hand- ful of truly great speakers I’ve auditioned in my home. My wife and a goodly number of my audio- phile friends would put them at the head of that august bunch. And I would, too, if we’re talking about High End speakers you don’t have to be very, very rich to afford. I just hope I get the chance to keep them a while longer, because the Sound Lab Millennium-1s are musical in the best sense of the word. They make listening to music, any kind of music, the pure pleasure it ought to be.

And by all accounts, the U-1PX are a huge step up from the M-1. All I'm saying is if they make a speaker that is basically an updated Prodigy and they charge Statement prices for it, then it's going to bomb. Too much quality competition at reasonable prices in that market segment.

I reckon you're right on the money!

Here's my guess: I'm with Rich... This will be a successor to the Prodigy.. Bigger, wider panel, with CLX technology baked-in. Price point between Summit X and CLX, so high teens MSRP... Can't wait to see it.... and of course, listen to it....

Hola my dearest friends...my guess is: it is going to be the top model of ML. The price range will be around 40 to 50K and will be the reference speaker for all the reviewers of the most famous magazines. It will be the most revealing and the most transparent speaker on the global market. It will be a truly hi-end product. Self powered woofers, the best crossover in the market, with big, huge panels. Happy listening!

Well I have a new ****ograph as Bernard likes to call it. 1080p at 60 FPS and hopefully the mic is half decent. It probably isn't, though:(

I dunno how I missed this thread, been missing all the excited postulation. I've got Kedar's Shun Mooks. and I am going to try and upgrade the sound on the spot. I'm guessing Peter won't be there, though. Hasn't he stopped doing shows? Shame because he was good at it.

I'll get as many high res pics as I can as well as the video for those sad enough to want to watch that sort of thing.

And Justin -- I don't want to hear how your Apogees blow away the new model...... :)

My little sweet Duettas look a bit dwarfed by those things. I've never heard the "super" Apogee models like Full Range and Grands, but I'd be amazed if contemporary well restored pairs wouldn't give this newcomer at least some grounds for respect. Really quite a lot of respect, that is:D

Glad you'll be there, toting the new ****ograpgh.

Looking forward to hearing which of the above speculations (if any) are correct. I won't be surprised if Roberto, as a dealer, has some inside information.......but he's not singing! :)

What are the dimensions of the Duetta?
