to stop by the local Martin Logan store and listen to the CLX.
Even though they weren't really properly set up yet they sounded great.
Yes, they can actually play bass and yes, they look really nice IRL.
Soundstage, definition, you name it, they have it. :music:

The problem now is who should I start to try to convince, the wife or the bank.

I say start working on the wife....

My experience has always been to start working on her 6-12 months before I'm ready to make a major transaction, so she's softened up by the time I'm ready to pull the trigger!

Jewelry and Spa time always help this tremendously...

You know that you aren't really fooling her. She probably knows the routine by heart.:D

how about this tactic:

there is a Statement system on flea-bay... Tell her you want to bid on THAT.. make sure she knows you're serious. You'll have to get a loan, etc. because it'll go for over 50K easily.

Once she's freaked out about that, then hit her with the CLX proposal and act like you're settling for something that will appease her. $20K financed for 3 years with 0% interest looks pretty good then!!

She's happy and then you got what you REALLY wanted in the first place..

OK, i'm not really serious here...

Total genius, Tom.

You wouldn't start working on MY wife, would you?... er, don't take that the wrong way!:)

Sigh, $20k, you lucky b------s, here we are lookin more at the range of 35-40k, anniversary edition but still.
Why oh why did I do this, I was so happy with my Purities ;)

And they were so PURE! Until now...

B*gg*er, as they say.

You'll live, Stefan. Get over it for now...

Tom,

Nice influence technique. It is used by many a salesman. (That tie is only $50 compared to the $1K suit you just bought. And it goes so nicely with it.)

Here's another influence technique:

Get a sign/ button for the wife that says something to the effect: My husband is an audiophile and I fully support him and his hobby. Have her post it somewhere in her space or in her car. Don't mention the CLX yet, but let her dwell on it.

She needs to take the message that she is a supportive audiophile wife to heart and then start acting consistently with the message.

A few weeks later, ask for the CLX. It just might work.

Stefan,
I also made the same mistake you did, I tried and tried to ignore the CLX, but my curiosity got the best of me and I went to the Magnolia Hi-Fi store in North Seattle, the CLX's demoed last Friday at a suburb in Seattle, got moved to a store closer to my work... so I just came back from a quick lunch break.
Not the best room for listening to them but they were impressive none the less, another review is not necessary but in comparison to my CLS1a's a whole different animal.
They were using 2 Mac 1.2kw amps and the C500 preamp to power them. As mentioned by others on this site, a huge soundstage width and depth. A sweet spot that is not as narrow as the CLS.
The first time someone listens to my CLS setup they comment on the detail of the music, the CLX has the detail but not as etched, and the bass is amazing...
you have to hear it.... hope I can stop thinking about them.....

About the wife .....

take her with you to Hing End show

make her listen to CLX in a sweet spot and watch some jaw dropping

ask her to take photos for everyone's enjoyment here in the Club

ask her what she thinks our next ML will be

hear "CLX"

done :D

now what remains is the bank part .........

You know that you aren't really fooling her. She probably knows the routine by heart.:D

You are oh so right.
But why is it we get blind sided everytime.
Not 2 days after getting the OK to buy the Summits.
She shows me a $3,500 watch she wants.
Should have seen that coming.

Tom, your idea of asking for the ML Statements and settling for the CLXs, that is a great idea except you can change the Statements to the CLXs and change the CLXs to Summits....hey wait a minute I think that has already been done!

LOL!!

Actually I didn't need to resort to that as Kerry was all for getting rid of the reQuests and getting Summits because they go better with the room.

OK you First need to get her in the sweet spot ! Then you can tell her that your buying the CLX.

Ok sorry my mind went in the gutter ! (When isnt it though )

$20 k fro 3 years at 0% I may look into that !

Yeah Tom you just keep telling yourself that. just because she hasn't done the reveal yet, doesn't mean she won't...just wait for it.

As for the $20,000 for 3 years interest free that would not include my total cost which would also include a debt to my wife for the rest of my ML listening days or until death. And she would remind me of it every time I want to do something new.

Kerry doesn't have a hidden agenda at all. He is totally fine with the Summits, but I don't think he'd be so keen on a $20K purchase.

He, she whatever, my point is........crap I totally forgot my point. What a waste it is to lose one's mind or as President Bush says, it is a huge waste to lose one's brain, mind, wallet, well you know what I mean. Yeah, he really did say that, at least I think he did!
