Power line equipment - types and options

20 amp line Ken, Thanks for the follow up. I think my first move should be to get a dedicated line to the system. Then some type of surge/power protection. Seems like "regenerated" power adds a lot of extra expense. I'm wondering if just putting in the dedicated line is enough. JM

Power line equipment - types and options

Going With The Summits!! I spoke with my dealer this morning and I will be trading in/up from the Vantage Descent i combo to the Summits! I am excited about this for sure!:D I believe that with the larger panel, along with the lower cross overpoint, and going from 34 to 24 on the bottom end...

Vantage: Quality and reliability - What have you experienced?

Summits At first I did try changing every thing around and got the same results. What convinced me was plugging the Vantage into a completely different outlet, all by itself, with no electronics or speaker cables connected, just the speaker. It still makes the noise, and loudly I might add...

Vantage: Quality and reliability - What have you experienced?

Another decision tomorrow . . . Gordon, I played the speakers for my family who was over for a birthday party. I plugged in the "bad" Vantage hoping to demo the system on a few songs, and the noise was incredible, like a machine gun that never stopped! I quickly unplugged it. I know I...

Oppo 981 and TV on I have the Oppo 981HD and I have a question for you. I have it connected to the TV via HDMI, but if I want to play music only on my two channel system I have to have my TV turned on and I get the blue Oppo screen. Am I doing something wrong? I can't figure out how to use...

What equipment is used? Dave, What specific power distribution equipment do you use and why did you chose it? Thanks! JM

Power line equipment - types and options

Vantages: On-off after each use - not a good idea? Tony, WOW! I checked out your system. AWESOME! I suspect that you hear dead silence from the Summit woofers when in stand by mode or even with the green light on but no music playing? Not the case with me. I do have the Vantages...

Power line equipment - types and options

Ok, so I've decided I need to take a serious look at the AC going into my equipment. Right now I am just using a basic Monster power surge product with enough outlets for everything I currently own. I have a feeling everything is not right from the AC. I'm probably getting spikes and don't even...

Vantage: Quality and reliability - What have you experienced?

Definitely not dust - should get I'm voting for an electronics issue. It is very loud and consitent. Sounds like a breathing machine! Even so, I think I'm going to start researching "power-line" equipment. My AC is not the best even though my house is only 13 years old.The circuit the system...

    Theater i vs. Stage

Vista's for surrounds with vantage fronts Rich, I have the Vantage's for fronts and the Descent i for the sub. I'm seriously looking at the Stage as my center. My room is 15 x19 with the Vantage's on the long wall, so there is plenty of room to the sides. The panels are about 2.5 feet from...

Vantage: Quality and reliability - What have you experienced?

Dust Rich, I did follow that thread, and although I am not an expert by any means, I doubt this is a dust problem. It was wierd. One speaker (the good one) barely made a noise when powered up, but the one that went bad, would sparkle/crackle upon start up for about 30 seconds. That time kept...

Vantage: Quality and reliability - What have you experienced?

Get Summits Great Suggestion, but . . . . + $6,000 prevents that solution . . . for now. Since the design of the two is relatively similar, wouldn't the same panel issues exist, in theory? Do Summits have double the low level woofer noise? MA

Vantage: Quality and reliability - What have you experienced?

Hello everyone, First a couple of points: 1. I love the sound of my Vantage/Descent i combination:D :music: :D , even with my 1980's electronics. Upgrades are certainly forthcoming. 2. My dealer AND Martin Logan have been GREAT! :rocker: I have absolutely no issues with the way both have...

Summits vs Vantages and Descent i - LAST CALL

Ht Ken, Yes the combo does sound great. The ONLY downside is that I have to adjust the sub's level based on the CD that's playing. No big deal, but I would guess with the Summits alone, you probably would not have to do that. I could be wrong though. Still, it's worth the extra effort and I...

Summits vs Vantages and Descent i - LAST CALL

Beakman, Thanks for the reply. I look forward to your updated photos and write up. One of the best rewards of this forum is seeing everyone's systems and getting ideas to impliment in your own system! I've now got 46 hours on the Vantages, and 23 hours on the Descent i. They are sounding more...

Summits vs Vantages and Descent i - LAST CALL

Final decision has been made . . . First of all I want to thank everyone who responded here. This was a tough decision, but one that I will live with . . . for now. I am going to keep the Vantage/Descent i combination. :D :music: :D Seeing that for now my room is only 15 feet front to...

Summits vs Vantages and Descent i - LAST CALL

14 x19 room size Rich, My room is 15' x 19' (plus another 10' for the foyer). The Vantages are on the long wall just off center on the 19' side. Are your Summits sitting on the short 14' wall so you have 19' front to back? I am concerned that if I went with the Summits, 15' front to back is...

Summits vs Vantages and Descent i - LAST CALL

Improved bass with the sub for 2 channel listening There is no doubt that adding the Descent i to the Vantages, improves the overall bass performance/effect. It makes the music more three dimensional too. I have it off the the right by about 4 feet and about 2.5 feet from each corner wall. I...

Summits vs Vantages and Descent i - LAST CALL

Amp effect on bass - mains and sub Rich, Thanks for the posting. I quess it does make sense (now) that even though the Summit/Vantage woofers are powered, they are still receiving a signal from the pre and main power amp, if i get this right. So those two pieces of electronics would make a...
