ARC "7" , kinda lends credence to that "synergy" thing we've been talking about !
Dave, they are about the same vintage, so the synergy is expected. I wonder, though, if the CD7 would be synergistic with my older ARC equipment (SP9 MkII/VTM 120).

The CDP in the Sumiko room was made by Primare CD31. I found a pic online that one of our fellow MLC provided.

Research indicates and some people might say that ML could start taking orders for the CLX in April, for a proposed Summer release.

Aren't you the one who said it was going to be shown at CES? Is this by any chance, government funded research?

Unfortunately, that's about we can do for now. If we knew when a CLX was going to be available I'm some of us would start planning now and unload some gear or hold off on buying anything in the near future. The latter comment is why companies are secretive about new product releases. They can have an impact on current sales not to mention date predictions tend to slip and slip.

When it comes, it comes. In the meantime I'll enjoy what I have.

CLS frame with an XStat panel gets my vote too!

Sheesh, I've been gone for 6 months and the CLX's are still vaporware!?!?!

Well, the CLS is a tough act to follow. Maybe this year?!?

It's good to dream...

So are you still working on the VPI motor?

Yeah, I just started getting back into the project again. I had a 6 month hiatus while I navigated through a forced career change and the associated financial headaches

Maybe I'll have some results before the '08 ML get together....
in Chicago?!?!?!

Ray - welcome back. Interesting to see that VPI is now offering the rim drive as an upgrade to all of the tuentables that can accept the dual motor/flywheel drive unit. Isn't that the direction you were heading?

The Rim Drive...

hey Tim,
Yes. It is interesting how Harry happened upon the notion that a quiet rim drive may be a more optimal solution than the low torque belt drives he has promoted for 25+ years.

As far as I am concerning, I have yet to be convinced that there is a clear winner between a high torque (direct without flywheel) thread drive or a high torque (quiet implementation) of a rim drive.
One thing is certain. Either of the two methods are clearly superior to the standard VPI approach.

It's amazing that 20+ years after the demise of vinyl that we are even having this discussion!

Cheers,

Update

Just spoke with an individual yesterday at ML. Tough to get info but I was told the CLX will hopefully be available by this summer. Speaker is all panel w / some new design twist. Still working on the final design. Approx. dimensions 6' X 2.2' with an attached box on the backside similar to the previous models. Tried to get an estimate regarding cost. No response.

I heard that they were going to be shorter than that. I also heard that they will be out this year but likely not in the US. Looks like they will debut in the European market first???

Looks like the only thing we know is that we know nothing

That seems very unlikely that they would debut in the European market first when the U.S. is their primary market.

My answer was deliberately vague, but it's the best info I have at this time. I'll keep ya posted.
