Hi jonnyb,

Thanks, I'll listen to some samples and probably buy one or two myself ! Always nice to find some new material !

Now, back on track: yesterday evening I listened to "Deadwing" from Porcupine Tree. And now Moby "Hotel" (double CD) is spinning. :D

Cheers !

Mapleshade CD's

Mapleshade recordings are incredibly well done, especially the jazz, but I also have the reggae and it it the most amazing reggae I have heard. In my system and to my ears, these are superior to Chesky recordings – much richer and with more slam. They will also letyou return CD'syou don't like, not jsut for sefective merchandise.
My favorites:
Clifford Jordan Quartet “Live at Ethel’s” Baltimore club date from 1987.
Clifford Jordan Big Band “play What You Feel;” Live in NYC 1990. Not normally a fan of big band on recordings, but the very best I’ve heard. Want to hear how well your system images?
Norris Turney “Big Sweet and Blue” last alto player with Ellington. Juicy sax sound; great quartet!
Bobby Battle Quartet with David Murray “The Offering;” if you like “Kind of Blue"....
Warren Smith, “Cats Are Stealing My $hit!” Jazz percussion, rap, whatever compositions. Impact galore.
Ras Mek Peace, “Midnite;” no reverb, no electronic effects, no haze, (well, maybe some, but no electronic, just the type you’d expect from a reggae band). Huge, pure reggae.
Perfect accompaniment to the wines from Heathcote.

Tonight

For a contrast, tonight (so far) I've had:

Madeleine Peyroux - Careless Love (CD)

Bon Jovi - Keep the Faith (Vinyl)

Now, the big question for me is what to play next . . . it's either going to be Diana Krall or Cecilia Bartoli!

Cheers,

David

Paul Westerberg - Stereo
Art Blakey - Moanin'
Glen Campbell - 20 Greatest Hits (how's that for a wince-inducing guilty pleasure!)

Robbie Robertson - Robbie Robertson CD vs LP Demo - Had some non-audio friends over last night. They thought CD sounded really, really good. Then they listenned to the LP. The concensus was that the CD should be sentenced to life the jail (i.e. the car).

John Muranyi and Friends - Big Joe's Jazz (LP)
Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake Its Morning (LP)
Sigur Ros - () (LP)
David Bromberg Band - How Late'll Ya Play'Til (LP)

Yesterday evening:

- Lamb "Between Darkness and Wonder" (CD)
- Sonny Rollins "Tenor Madness" (CD)

Right now:

- Angela Gheorghiu "Mysterium - Sacred Arias" (CD)

Cheers !

The Raveonettes "Chain Gang of Love" (CD)

One of my favorite "what if" CDs.

What if guitar distortion was invented in the 50's?
What if the Jesus and Mary Chain started their career in the 50's?
What if it was OK to sing about fetishes and sexual innuendo in the 50's?

You would get the Raveonettes!

Fans of 50's music, Sonic Youth and early Jesus and Mary Chain may dig it. People who hate industrial music will hate this too. Me? I am still confused but it sure is fascinating!

Some of my musical favorites played through my ML's:

The Moody Blues, "Days of Future Past" (LP)
Emerson, Lake and Palmer, "Brain Salad Surgery" (LP)
Neil Young, "Harvest" (LP)

Bill Evans, "Everybody Digs Bill Evans" (CD)
Eva Cassidy, "Live at Blues Alley" (CD)
Nickle Creek, "Nickle Creek" (SACD)
