I recently bought a pair of Summits. I noticed when I unpacked them and set them in place, that the Panel would move back and forth maybe a 1/4 of an inch. It was like a rocking action on a pivot point where it connects to the woofer box enclosure. I was not sure whether the Summit panel was suppose to have a slight play in the panel where it is attached to the woofer enclosure or not. I checked with Jim P. and he told me that the panels should be solidly connected to the lower woofer enclosure and their should be no play that would allow the panel to rock slightly back and forth. He suspected that something needed to be snugged up. He sent me the panel installation instructions and sure enough there are 6 allenhead screws on the bottom of the woofer enclosure that anchor the panel to the woofer enclosure. These screws had just slightly loosened due to I what I suspect are the G-forces applied to the panels in shipment. I snugged all 6 allenhead screws up and now the panel is rock solid with no rock and roll movement at all....Of course I don't count panel movement during Brother in Arms SACD, actually it seems that the couch, walls, and everything in the room moves when I play that Album, so I know that the Summits Rock too.

Since there has been a lot of Summits changing hands lately and most of them are being shipped, I thought I would put this up as an FYI so guys can check the panel tightness and tighten the 6 bottom screws if needed before playing unintentional rock and roll on their new Summits.

PS. The 6 allenhead screws require two different sizes of allenhead wrench. There are 3 in front and 3 in back of the bracket that holds the panel to the enclosure. 1/8 and 5/32 are I believe the two sizes.Again this may translate to other tall upright ML Panel hybrids that go through shipping g-forces, or maybe mine was a fluke:music:

Another thing I've noticed with speakers from various mfrs is that woofers can get a little loose sometimes.

We had a speaker in from another mfr a long time ago and the bass was very loose and whumpy. A quick check and the allen bolts had all come loose! Now as a matter of course, if they are accessible, I tighten down the drivers after using a new speaker for a couple of weeks.

You'd be amazed how much that can affect the sound!
