Greetings! I am new to this site and am trying to decide whether I should buy some Montage speakers. I heard them at Sound Advice and fell in love with them. They are on sale now and I want to buy but have a question. Due to space restrictions, the back of one of the speakers will have to be directly against a back wall while the other speaker will have two feet of space between it's back and the wall. Since they are dipole speakers, would this distort the sound or make it difficult to set up imaging-wise? The salesman says it will not be a problem but I would appreciate any advice you might have before I buy. I'm not a rich guy and might consider some other speaker if the placement would severely compromise the beautiful sound of these speakers. Thanks for your help!

Speaker placement can compromise sound of ANY speaker, not just the MLs. Your particular ML is somewhat of a dipole (tweeter only) but it is not like the electrostats which are almost fully dipole speakers.
The wall will affect the sound, especially the dipole character of your speaker, but I do not think it is a deal breaker in this instance.

I owned the Mosaics a couple of years back and I had them really close to the wall. I thought they sounded pretty good still, just make sure to play with the toe-in and watch for corners.

What will you be driving them with? Separates? Receiver? If the latter, I highly recommend one of the newer receivers with the built-in Audyssey MultiEQ XT room correction. It can significantly compensate for asymmetric speaker/wall/listening postitions. You can also use an Audyssey enabled receiver as a pre/pro, feeding a separate amp to drive your ML's.

Joey and Sleepy - Thanks for the advice. I bought the speakers from Sound Advice this afternoon for delivery next week and can't wait to hook them up. I currently have a six year-old Sony ES receiver and when it dies I will definitely check out the Audyssey feature on a newer model. Thanks again.

All joking aside, enjoy your new toys! You got Alan (sleepy) and Craig among many others down there for moral support (Florida peeps)!
Ideally you would want them both to be equal distance from the wall but they should still sound good even if they are not. You can help compensate some of the offset by placing some sound absorbing material such as an acoustic panel behind the one close to the wall.
