Has anyone actually heard Transrotor? They certainly look the part, but I've never heard a single report on how one sounds!

No Artus reviews on the web, which is the one I posted.

"The German company Transrotor has introduced a new top model: the Transrotor Artus. This LP player/phonograph/grammophone/turntable sets the record as the most expensive in the world, with a price of 118,000 Euros, the equivalent of $150,000 USD. At 220 kg (485 lbs) it is not the heaviest in the world. That record is being held by the 350 kg (772 lbs) heavy Clearaudio STATEMENT."

Bet it sounds terrible...:D:eek::)

Just to have 'em both on the same page, plus a pic I have never posted, the Goldfinger equipped Clearaudio. Now if only I had a screwdriver to hand at the time... it could have been converted into a "Nofinger":)

The best speaker in the world - out-of-focus and Halcro'd in Hong Kong.

Psssst... IT ISN'T THE BEST SPEAKER IN THE WORLD!!! Boy do I hate those Stereophile ads for it running at the mo.

But then you knew it wasn't the best anyway... no speaker is.

And you would have posted your pics from the confines of Brixton Jail

PSST: Spent a lot of time with them in a good room and they are definitely one of the best speakers in the world. I'd put the YG squarely in the top five....

Got a pair coming our way after Munich, really looking forward to it. UPS man is in transit with the Dartzeel integrated today, can't wait!

Looking forward to your review and/or more detailed discussion of them after your initial post here and spending a couple of days with them. Getting them in your own room and components should prove enlightening.

Me too!

The designer of the YG speakers was extremely respectful of ML though. When I told him I had CLX's, he said "we won't even bother with my small speaker, it won't give you the big soundstage you are used to..."

Nonetheless his small speaker the Anat was very good and if I was in a room where I didn't have room for a big pair of panels, I'd be very torn between the Kipod and the Verity Audio Parsifal.

Cool guy, great speakers.

That leaves four others... which are?

Don't worry I'm not going to contest what you think - it's "uncontestable". Just curious to know what you think...

Is the mag going to see a DarTZeel Integrated review? T'would be nice...

Dartzeel integrated just got dropped off by the UPS man yesterday, will be hooking it up this weekend....

If I had to pick my top favorites they would be (in no particular order):

Verity Audio Loehngrin II
YG Anat Studio
Avalon Sentinel
Gamut L-9
The CLX's with good subs of your choice

and provisionally the JM/Focal Grande Utopia. I'm listening to the Diablo Utopias right now and am very excited about them, so I can only speculate how good the Grande's are.

But in terms of getting you closer to the music, having the ability to play as loud as you would need to and being a speaker where you would sit down, listen, enjoy and not have ANY complaints about, these would be my choices for speaker nirvana.

Hmmm... I'm just thinking about what I think the best speakers I have heard are...

Oddly, I can't really come up with virtually anything I think is absolutely amazing. I can find fault with anything!:) But these are very good:

Analysis Omegas
Good old Linn Isobarik - just a really good, full sounding, relaxed speaker. Great memories of it in various locations - and that's what made it exceptional - wherever I heard it, it ALWAYS sounded great. Not that expensive, either.
CLX
Big MBLs (have to give 'em the benefit of the doubt from the material I heard them with) and the MBL101E
Cabasse La Sphere
At a push, Avantgarde horns - specifically the Duo, but the Trio plus bass horns are probably way better. The Duo has similar problems to MLs with dynamic versus "something else" doing the higher frequencies.

Gamut speakers are great, too.

Not living in the US, hearing the top end American native stuff is virtually impossible. Really should go to RMAF sometime...:)

You'll note everything there apart from the CLX isn't of US breed.

Naturally, I am not a professional audio type, so my choice is based on a less broad "experience set".

EDIT: Naim SBL beats the Avantgarde's, on further thought - driven by a full complement of Naim electronics, of course! In fact, it's way up there:)

Ironically, sitting here now bashing away on my Gibson, I know full well nothing on that list will reproduce it accurately.

This comment keeps coming up - I'll give those guys at YG one thing - they're good at thier marketing, 'cos everyone keeps "parroting" it.

I'd love to hear a pair.

Your shots of the Statement are a bit better than mine!! Nice bit of engineering!

...or the Burmesters!

Great looking room, and those look like Boulder amps as well (sort of, the tops look slightly different than what I recall).

Hm.. interesting one - top looks like a Theta. I don't reckon they are either.

From the source I got the shot from, the only other identified component are the Burmester B50s. The MLs are Summits which look too wide, somehow.

So, correctly identify those amps, someone, and win absolutely nothing....... but respect!:)

Anyway, Tim, I'm moving in...:D
