There are very few bands where I own their entire output. Talking Heads is one of them. Why? Like many pivotal and seminal bands they made memorable music. This collection of the band's eight studio albums comes in the dual disc format with CD audio on one side plus bonus tracks, extended remixes and outtakes. The other side features the entire album remixed in surround sound format with videos, photo galleries and other enticements.
Each Dualdisc comes in a CD like case with a white plastic backing. The titles of the CDs aren't on the individual holders that are a bit of a pain. The booklets feature new photos, lyrics, There's also miniature limited edition art prints that illustrate a song or lyric enclosed in the booklet.
I was immediately taken aback by how good these discs sound. The clarity and depth of the recordings on the remastered cds far surpasses their predecessors, even more so than I anticipated. The difference is immediately noticeable, and certainly welcome.
The alternate versions of the songs are especially interesting. My personal favorite is Wild Wild Life; it has me going for the volume control every time. An acoustic version of Psycho Killer is worth the price of the disc by itself.
I can't comment on the 5.1 versions {being a 2 channel guy] But there are a few videos that I enjoyed.
Overall I am very happy with this purchase. IMO this is a must have even for the casual Talking Head’s fan. I wish they would have listed the songs on the back of each CD tray, and can do without the cardboard art insert in each booklet, but these are very minor issues with a super box set.
