I was looking at page 1 of this thread, and have a question about your stand: what's the purpose of having two platforms between each two components?

A very long, delayed response to the above. Apologies.

The purpose is to minimize contact points between the individual component and the rack. One cone above (point up) and three Mapleshade tripoint footers below. The second component from the top in the rack photo (CJ ET5 pre) shows this best.

One simply tightens the rack bolts to ensure a solid rack / component coupling. This causes a minor bending of the top component plate. When one tries to move the component, it doesn't budge and is literally locked in between the lower and upper shelf. Hence the name clamp rack.

Thanks for the explanation, Gordon. I like the clamping system in theory, but with all the tubed equipment I have, I like a lot of space above the equipment, for ventilation.
