Hocky beat me to it... The new 2011 997 will SMOKE the 996 BIG TIME! Though at 77, not sure how much of that he might be doing, but it can do it! Price does not surprise me one bit, of the 997 OR the 996.

Here is some auto porn for you...

Agreed the 997 is so much more refined then the 996. I hated the “fried egg” headlights of the early 996 (1999 to 2001). I was so happy when Porsche changed to the turbo headlights for the Carrera in 2002. If I had the money I would have gone with a 997 Carrera S with the Sport Chrono pack. However, the 996 Carrera is hands down the best car I have owned (to date).

My 996.

I like the 996 and the 997. They both drive great. Heck, even James' 928s drive great! I've yet to drive a Porsche that didn't handle. Even the last generation Porsche SUV handled great, much better than my ML did. With Porsche being number one in quality ratings by J.D. Power and their fantastic racing history and their handling, it's a hard combination to better. As far as pricing, deals can be had, if you buy smart.

It's funny how I've been a proponent of fast nice cars for so long... only to have reality slap me in the face.

No super car for me for some time.... money sinks/blackholes/debt traps.

I would love a GT3 though.

This is the one that makes me:drool:

The Mighty GT2-RS>> I love turbo cars

Well, since this is a car thread, and we have sidetracked to English cars, I thought I would post a recent pic of my '55 Jag XK 140 that is currently under restoration. Auto porn, anyone?

RICH,

Pardon me if this offends anyone on here, but that is one gorgeous ass on that jag:bowdown:

Cars are not like homes. The money you put into them, you wont get back... For example, i bought my car for 16xxx and probably put 8k in so far. I could never turn around and sell it for 28xxx, probably more like 10 to 12 (if that).

The other night i did race a 2004 Porsche Cayenne Turbo and smoked him. Was a blast though. Sounded great!

I've been looking at some old mid-50s Jag pics. When Rich gets that sorted properly, it is going to be nice.

Anyway, cars are all well and good, but if you want to go fast, get a bike, not a car. Or an Ariel Atom. Or a fighter jet.

The age of real adventure in speed has gone. I really wish I was concious of the aerospace scene in 1960s America. Way too young at the time, but hell, looking back on it - incredible!

That is so true. It really is sad. I would love to go to the Utah Salt flats and watch some of these great speed demons:rocker:

I guess at some point in time it will change (hopefully), but in the last few years it's been hard to get back what you put into a home as well. I have an uncle who recently offered a bank $500,000 on a beach cottage in Nags Head NC, that just three years ago was on the market for $1.2 mill. The bank accepted his offer just to get it off their books. When real estate does come back, these are going to be the times that people look back and say "if only I had purchased......".

Nice car Rich, how long before we get to see the finished product?

Cars that drag bikes around are much more fun.

Thanks for the comments, guys. Yeah, she is a beauty. Hopefully, she will be finished sometime next year. The guy working on her is exceedingly slow, but he knows what he is doing and is a stickler for quality. So the wait will be worth it. Because she wasn't all-original (my uncle used to race her and had upgraded to an XKE engine and didn't keep the original), I was free to do some modifications in the remodel. So the drum brakes have been converted to disc, the tranny has been converted to a five speed, and a limited slip differential installed. Oh, and the engine was bored out to 5.0 liters and is expected to put out around 400 hp! That's about double what it had originally. So she will be a beauty . . . and a beast. I expect to do a little autocrossing and road rallies with her, as well as use her as an everyday driver.

And as far as holding your value, this is one car that did. Given what my uncle paid for it in 1959 (he was the second owner) and what it was worth when I bought it from my aunt, it more than surpassed the rate of inflation for that time period. But then, there were only about 350 of this particular model (roadster, aka open two-seater) imported into the U.S. in that year. There were only 3,350 total made over the entire course of their production (from '54 to '57). While I will probably never recoup the cost of the restoration, it will be worth it. Once she is finished, I will definitely post lots of pics.
