Best Steak I've had in the last 5 years was a place called Bones in Atlanta

http://www.bonesrestaurant.com/

I will second Bones. The best rib eye I have ever had.

I'm suprised no one has mentioned this one yet, but Craftsteak in the MGM Grand in Vegas is the best steakhouse I've ever been to, without question. They are constantly scouting cattle stock around the world and will change suppliers every six months if they feel the need. It is on my must visit list every time I go to Vegas.

We were in Omaha a couple weeks ago for the Berkshire Hathaway meeting. First time we ever went... what a crazy weekend!! We ate at Gorat's, and were right there when Warren Buffett and Bill Gates were leaving! The steaks were so-so, but seeing Warren and Bill up close made it memorable! If we ever go again, we'll definitely try some others on your list!

Haha, I was there too. And yes that was crazy. I only went on Friday night at Borsheim's though. I got there a little late at about 6 so I didn't even bother getting in line for food/drinks. Gorat's is okay, but somehow it's Warren Buffet's favorite steakhouse in town. The food's okay, decor's outdated, but it sure has a history ya know? Next time you come, make sure to PM/e-mail me if you need directions to those places!

Ill be in St.Lois Monday. Kansas City Tuesday and Omaha Wednesday. Ill try and get some local BEEF fare and see what the Midwest has to offer!

Hope you read my list and tried some of the places in Omaha! Even if you didn't, hope you had a good experience here in the midwest!

My favorite steak!!!

Murray's in Minneapolis.

Great service, fabulous food, the silver butterknife for two is my fav, and the table bread with the garlic toast

They have a great seasoning, and I have never left there with even average service.

On your recommendation I went there a few weeks ago when I was in Vegas with some collegues at our biggest tradeshow. Everyone agreed it was easily within the top 3-5 best steaks they had ever had.

Thanks for the tip.

Hey I'll be in Burbank/Thoausand Oaks on Sunday night, anyone got a good recommendation in that area?

Glad to hear you enjoyed it.

San Antonio = Morton's (I REALLY like this place!)

Austin = Truluck's (I have not tried 3 Forks, but I have heard good things, other than just here)

Dallas = Del Frisco's (have not tried any other high end places in Dallas)

I have to say Del Frisco's is WAY over priced though! Its steaks are no better than either of the other two places I picked but it is about 2X the cost of either one of them! We didn't even have the INSANELY expensive lobster! What the Hell is that about anyway??? Lobster for $120+...are you freaking kidding me?!

The Travel Channel description of Bern's.

Tampa, Florida
The décor of Bern's Steakhouse is a feast for the eyes. Its extravagantly decorated interior features the finest marble, velvet and gold trim -- a perfect setting for the steak and wine connoisseurs who frequent Bern's tables. Dry-aging is taken to new levels at this steakhouse, where the meat is aged for up to 8 weeks -- almost double the industry standard. Once the beef is properly aged, it's then cut to order on the spot and taken directly to the grill.

This is rather amusing. The interior does have the items in it they describe but it is quite outdated and has the appearance of an old movie set whore house. You almost want to laugh when you walk in. Combined with the fact that it is basically is a warehouse you would probably never drive by and be impressed.

That said the food is good.
I believe they have the largest commercial wine collection in the USA. Something like 600,000 bottles and a 300 page hard bound wine list.

If you go, the kitchen tour in quite interesting. Don't forget the desert rooms upstairs.

Well, a little more to my style in the Omaha area is Johnny's Cafe. Terrific steaks -- and they really know what they are doing here, since they've been at it since 1922.

Always a great experience and steaks that were spot on. Good value as well. Used to go there regularly when I was stationed at nearby Offutt AFB ("Once you're on it, you can't get Offutt") at SAC HQS with the Air Force.

Also, we like Morton's in DC.

I remember seeing the interesting 'decor' and it did look like a '30s whorehouse! That's hillarious!!

Here in Toronto, I like Ruth's Chris for consistency. The Keg chain can be "ok" for a reasonable price.. some locations are a bit hit and miss..
Del Frisco's on Lexington in New York was exceptional.. :D

Ruth's Chris is pretty consistently good and I love their Chocolate Soufflet desert. Probably the best meal (surf and turf) I've ever had was at a premium steakhouse on a Carnival cruise. The most expensive I've ever had was at BOA in Vegas, bill was like $350 for 2, no alcohol. I think my surf and turd there was like $175. lol

The Angus Barn in Raleigh, N.C. is supposedly quite good. I have not tried it, though.

I have not had steak there, but there seafood stew was one of the best I have ever had. Huge portions and supposedly the best customer service in the US.

Atlanta- Chops or Bones
NYC- Peter Lugars
Indianapolis- St. Elmos, watch out for the cocktail sauce with shrimp!
Capital Grille/Manhattan- The sirloin with kona coffee crust. mmmm!
Chicago- The Chop House surf & Turf a 64 oz Porterhouse with a 32 oz rock lobster tail. Can you say FULL!

St. Elmos, downtown Indy.

Don't sit near the fire alarm and order the Shrimp cocktail, unless you want the whole restaurant to get wet.

Elmo's shrimp cocktail is great, but I feel like the rest of their menu is lackluster. I prefer Eddie Merlots, Mortons, and Ruth's over Elmos.
