socialxray, running DD EX does give a sudo rear channel mono mix for 5.1 sources but I'm not sure if a flag is needed to activate the EX encoding on most processors. On my Yamaha you can select DD EX, DTS ES or PLIIx for 5.1 to 7.1 I find I like the sound of PLIIx smoother and the pans between the surround and the surround back channels more seamless.
