Those are VPI Magic Bricks, laminated steel EMI traps plus mass damping. No longer on the amps but still in use damping the SUT.

Thanks on the decor. The wife and I are into ethnic art; African, Native American, and starting into Asian art.

GregLett,

The Primaluna Prologue-seven's have an awesome reputation. :) Excellent reviews as well. ;) May I ask if you have had the good fortune to audition these monoblocks? :confused: If so, what did you think of their sound?

Okay, I need some help. I's retahded. How do these get hooked up?

Pre-pro -> Prologues -> Speakers?

Pre out L to L amp, pre out R to right amp, L amp output to L speaker, R amp output to R speaker. Just like a stereo amp.

Okay so for a multi-channel prologue it's:

R pre-pro out -> R amp-in -> R speaker
L pre-pro out -> L amp-in -> L speaker
C pre-pro out -> 3rd amp in channel -> C speaker

and so on? I'm used to seeing solidstate amps with clearly defined inputs and such so I'm completely lost but that prologue seems like a really good deal for tubes. Wish there was a way to run a tube for music and SS for HT on the same speakers ;)

Exactly right!! But why would you not want to use tubes. I think they rock for HT.

I don't want to not do anything (how's that grammar!) ... I just don't know what I'm doing ;)

I would go tubes for music but not for HT as normally when I turn on my system I wanna watch something right away ... Music however, is normally something that's on for me to sit and listen to at my leisure while I do other things like read or expenses for work :banghead: or something like that.

Since tubes normally take a little while to warm up and therefore I don't want to be turning it on and off simply because I was bored and wanted to see what was on TV.

Am I crazy?

HI Charlie,
I took the cowards way out. I have a main tube and CLS IIA based system for music only and a separate bedroom solid state (Krell) 5.1 HT system.

I took this approach for several reasons. Most important, I wanted a casual system for background music. I've had a bedroom stereo system for this use for years. About a year ago I decided to completely redo the bedroom system and make it a theater system to go with my new plasma high def TV. It's a good (actually, very good) but not great system and works really well for HT as well as music.

For serious listening I use the main system. For everything else, the bedroom system does duty. I never, never fire up the main system for anything but real music listening. Tubes cost too much to waste them.

I've set mine up to use the plasma's speakers for regular TV viewing and the system for movies, etc. This way I get instant access for TV and the HT benefits for everything else.

SS For HT and Tubes for a Seporate Music System...

charliemike,

Your not crazy. I am... :p

I plan to use SS components in my HT system. For the simple reason that Processor's with all the lastest different audio bells and whisles like HDMI 1.3, DTS-ES, HD-True, etc. are SS... As for the Amplifiers SS, IMHO - Class A/B amplifiers seem to handle the full range of HT dynamics Lows / Highs / Mids with relative ease. I realize tubes do as well, but I prefer SS for my ears, as far as HT is concerned.

For Music listening I plan for having my SACD / CD / MP3 / Squeeze Box and especially Phono sources to be amplified at least partually by tube audio equipment... For sure, a Class A - tubed preamp and I am considering Class A tubed power amplification as well. Having said that, Class A SS amplifiers combined with a tubed preamp ~ Rock... Members here at the ML Club know the glories of SS amp with tubed preamp... And I have auditioned tubed McIntosh preamps with SS McIntosh Amps and they do sound amazing...:D

IMHO, I guess when it comes down to it, it's up to your personal preference. Let your ears lead you to your own sonic nirvana. ;)

I need to find some saavy ML owners in the DC area that I can listen to their stuff :)
