Stunned by a pair of ancient Quads
I recently had the pleasure of listening to a friends pair of QUAD ESL 57s
These things were over 40 years old, beat up, up but amazingly still working.
Yes, they were clearly very tired and in desperate need of refurbishment, but still magical.
The sound was so beguiling, the base and treble seemed to match so well. The mid range was exquisite.
I also must admit I love the sound of bass from a panel, having heard some newer QUADS and an Apogee Duetta. There is something real about the sound of drums on these, maybe because drums themselves are just vibrating panels.
I have never had the pleasure of listening to a pair of CLS's or CLX's, but if that little QUAD is a real indication of what a full range electrostaic sounds like, they too must be amazing.
Has anyone else on this forum experienced the 57's.
Oh, by the way- i bought them![Big grin :D :D](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
