The $9,000 to $17,000 you spent on the bike would not buy much Porsche.
It might buy you a Porsche clutch replacement :)
Now if you sold the Harley Davision and did not buy the crotch rocket your options would open right up.

I got scared to death of my bike one day, don't know why just wised up I guess. That was 23 years ago, no regrets about selling.
Same here, about sixteen years ago.

I had one of the original street superbikes, a new 1984 Yamaha FJ1100. I had to search the state to find one. It was great, probably the only vehicle I'll ever own that everyone looked at, even people who didn't know Jack about motorcycles, because it was so unusual (back then). It had replaced my generic Suzuki GS550 cruiser bike, so the difference was pretty extreme. I eventually sold it (another long story) when I decided I wasn't paying enough attention to riding anymore.

On a bike, although less so on a big bike like that, car drivers just don't "see" you. As a result, about once a week I had to take some sort of evasive manuever to keep from getting run into... When I decided I wasn't watching the cars well enough, it was time to move back inside some steel. I still yearn for a cruiser again like a Harley sometimes.

Guys, I know just what you mean about being scared on a bike. I started out in the dirt when I was 13. My Uncle owned a Suzuki dealership in West Virginia so you can guess what I started on. There is not a time that I get on the bike and don't feel that "pang" of fear in my belly. I have seen too many accidents over the years and lost a couple of friends as well. Too many riders ride in an aggressive style rather than a defensive manner. As far as I am concerned, anything larger then me has the right of way at all times. If a car is riding my butt, I will speed up and pull into a parking lot to let them get by me so as to avoid any incident. I saw a wreck once where the rider of the bike was tapping his brakes to get a car off of his tail and the car rear ended him as a result. He must not have been thinking about how a bike stops so much faster then a car. Tomorrow morning I will be flying 800 miles to ride a motorcycle 800 miles back and I get fearful and excited at the same time just thinking about it. My fear of them has never left but I love being on them.

Steve - I am surprised that you didn't go after the GS1100E seeing that you already rode a Suzuki. My favorite was the Kaw 900 that I had that my ex Brother-in-Law wrecked for me. He didn't get hurt, thank goodness. To pay me back he helped me modify a KZ1000 frame so we could mount the 900 engine in it and rebuild the bike. The Suzuki GS1100E came out the same year we did it and I was dusting them with ease.

Ward - Now that is nothing short of beautiful!!!! What did the pipes set you back? I prefer the duals but this one has 4 into 1. I know that gives you more HP but at that point, who cares? I will eventually convert it to Yoshi duals or maybe D&Ds.

Kach - My best friend has the Boxster. Awesome car but I enjoy the bikes more. Plus, I can do my own maintance. On the Porsche, I wouldn't be able to do much more than check the tire pressure. Hehe.

Joey - Wait until I post some pictures...

Tube - I actually was looking very hard at the CBR. Came close as the price point was beckoning to me. I rode a Busa a few years ago and I knew that I had to have one some day. Course that day is now tomorrow!

Motorcycle tales...

I know this is going to sound like I'm REALLY old, but bikes today look SO uncomfortable... Looking at that Hayabusa makes my back hurt! LOL!:)

Steve, I remember the 84 FJ1100 very well.. A Navy buddy of mine had one.. I think it was the first production bike with that riding position. I took it for a spin and thought I would never want to take a long trip on it.

In 1983 while on leave from the Navy, my brother Mike and I were going to buy motorcycles. We went to the Honda dealer and He bought a V45 Magna. I was sitting on a V45 Sabre and right next to me was a CB1100F. So freaking beautiful and I should've bought it. I got off the Sabre and got on the 1100F and the sales guy came over and said I should buy it. I ended up ordering a V45 Sabre instead. Later that week I got orders to the USS Midway which was stationed in Japan, so I cancelled the order.

My Brother's Magna was pretty sweet. After he passed away in 85 my folks gave it to me and I rode it from Wisconsin to San Diego, where I had been transferred after my 2 years in Japan. Riding a motorcycle across country was an experience I will never forget and highly recommend.

About 5 years later, I sold the V45 Magna to a friend in San Diego and bought a minty V45 Sabre - the bike I originally ordered with my Brother. I eventually sold it when I got ready to move to the Bay area.

About 2 years ago some guy called me and said the V45 Magna was in the garage of an apartment building that his Uncle owned in San Diego.. His Uncle died and left the building to him and that's how he found out about the motorcycle... As it turned out, my buddy never transferred the title and when he fell on hard times he left the bike sitting and moved to another state. It was trashed of course and I thought long and hard about getting it back, seeing how it was my Brother's and he died, etc. Eventually I decided not to, so I transferred the title to this guy and let it go.

The CB1100F was only made for 9 months and is considered pretty rare. Another Navy buddy of mine had a V65 Magna which was the 1100cc version of the bike my Brother bought. That bike was WICKED fast and was the be-all end-all bike when it was introduced in 83 (or was it 84).

I dream of someday owning either one of those, but it's just a dream, often interrupted by my partner Kerry saying, "Don't even THINK about getting a motorcycle"

Anyway, that's probably more than I should've posted, but it's a pretty neat motorcycle story.

That was me four years ago, now I have some grease under my fingernails and operating way outside my comfort zone all the time.

Some air cooled porn for you - it's just a bike with four wheels.

twich, is that in a truck?

The light feel of an early-mid year air cooled 911 is what makes it so much fun.

The motor is in my street legal 1986 Monte Carlo SS, in race trim it runs 10.20's @131.7, my best DOT legal pass was a 10.49 @129.9

FWIW, I too have a soft spot for 911's, picture of my 1984 Targa attached.

The HMF stainless w/carbon fiber ran about $1k. I was going more for esthetics and sound than more horsepower. It has more than anyone on the street needs. It's a toy, like so many other things we use to sooth our need to own stuff.

Well I still have my boxter and that will have to do for a while at least! When I get around to replacing it I think I want at least 650hp. Playing with some of the modern Porsche tuner cars made me feel positively slow at only 410hp. lol

Tuner unveils 800hp Porsche 911
http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/03/08/tuner-unveils-800hp-porsche-911/

Not a bad looking ride. Several tuners are now making 800hp 911's and it was with a group of those that made me feel like I was dragging a parachute. Perhaps if my latest business venture does well one will be in my future; however, for the time being I will have to contend myself to what I currently have. The boxter is much better for day-to-day driving but I sure miss the rush the I got out of pushing the Ruf.

If you end up looking for a street legal race car again... I reccomend the Lotus Elise. Small, but much like a go-cart on steroids. Light weight, balanced and accuratly priced in my opinion. Around 50k. I would also considered used for these.

By the way-the ford gt-40 is still a ford! LOL I wonder about depreciation

It might not be 1000hp but power - to - weight is pretty good. 225hp @ 500lbs all motor, no nitous or turbos, 0-120 mph in 1000' on ice. My buddys prostock sled weighs 440lbs and makes 300hp on the motor alone, does 124mph in 660'. If you have never gone that fast in that short a distance on ice you don't know what a rush it can be !
