Are you seriously interested in the CLX?

I'm interested, but not until I can build a room around using three of them in a very special configuration.

Probably in three to five years, and only if I build a new house with the specially configured room.

For now my tweaked Monoliths and SL3XC are quite sufficient.

But you dumped them! From another thread:

"I have a harsh room and I got rid of my Summits for the very reason you speak of."

Yes that is true but they were a great sounding speaker. I like trying different things and the CLX would be something I would like to try.

I definitely want to hear them, but doubt I could justify the expense to my better half. In the last year I've purchased 2 new cars and new house. Next on the list is my dream car; the one I plan to drive until the end.

I too am interested, but I will have to see them and hear them in person before I try to sneak them by my better half. But if they are as good as I have heard, then yes I will get a pair and move my Summits to the rear of the room.

I can't swing the CLX - until used ones pop up. I don't have the disposable for something that luxurious for my ears.

Besides, I have bigger problems to contend with... like my current system.

Yes. Enough that I may be contacting them and arranging a similar pilgrimage to the one Tom just took.

I have been saving towards the possibility of picking up a $20K speaker. I had been leaning heavily toward the Avalon Indra and still keeping my CLS's. If the CLX's are as good as Tom seemed to indicate that could change.

if my attention is not diverted

I have put my cls 1 up for sale and have begun saving. That's serious. I have not heard the CLX yet.
When I bought my first pair of CLS I wa seriously into maggies. I heard the CLS while auditioning a preamp. My point is ultimately my ears will make the decision.
I still would live to see a shoot out between the MG 20 and the clx.
Also the escalante and vmps ribbons are in the running.

I think auditioning in one's home is key. However, there are several challenges:
- picking out the speakers for comparison - spending $20K, it would be silly not to do the due the diligence, even if one obviously biased. In addition to ML and Magnepan, how about Kharma, Eben, Magico, Wilson, or others?

- availability with the chosen models - many of the brands are "exotic" and may not be available in your area

- the dealer parting with the speakers - the suckers are heavy and can get nicked easily. May not be a good proposition for the dealer.

- the right setup in one's home- the room is always a challenge

- the matching electronics - ML works better with certain amps and preamps than others; so does Magnepan, and the others - are they available so you are hearing the best the speaker can do?

- can one afford those matching electronics, or is one's system not reaching its potentially with weak components? So many people make this mistake.

As for CLX vs MG 20.1, I have never heard them side by side, but the MG has a much warmer sonic signature, and is slower. It would be my second choice. CLX is the typical Logan sound, but with much bigger soundstage, more open, faster, more coherent. It's everything people love about ML, but much improved upon.

Great car, who needs more speakers!

I told Mark Schifter from AV123 last year at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest that he won best sound of show and he said "for which room?"

To which I said, nope, it was the sound of your Cayman S going down the street!!!

Thanks Jeff. I am enjoying this car immensely! Oh wait, I forgot, you're a publisher. I should have said, I am immensely enjoying this car!

clx me not

I really love my spires! I bought them without hearing them and it turned out good. I really think that for 20k+ the should look better I am sure that they sound great but looks are very important to me and that funny box at the base does not do it or me. I think they would have been better if the bases looked more like the statements and had metal on the sides and forget all that wood.I love the look of the new line of martin logan vista, vantage, spire, summit I even really like what the did with the preface wow a great looking speaker.I think that my favorite speakers
martin logan ever produced as far as esthetics would have to be (1 being the best).
1) statement e2 the best looking speaker ever!
2) spire/summit
3)cls
4)prodigy
look I am not an expert but if they looked a little more like I described I would
really consider getting a pair.

I agree re: appearance. But, that's easily fixed with $ through M-L's custom shop. M-L, like Ferrari, is awesome that way.

Actually, the CLX looks a lot better in person.

I didn't mind it at all and I really think the custom finish
option is pretty cool. Mine may have to be in lime green.

you have got to be joking

lime green gag me with a spoon!I can understand red, wenge, bubinga and the others but lime green I think you are pulling my fin.I do like the natural cherry one other member got those and they did look good

Nope, if I get to custom order a pair of CLX's they will
be lime green. It's my favorite color, always has been.

It will pick up the lime green highlights on my Naim 555
quite nicely.

If I can't get lime green in a timely fashion, the standard
maple would be fine too. That's what color my Summits are.

Obviously, you have no sense of artistic adventure. That's
why they offer em in the standard finish....

You write the check, you can tell me what color to get them.

Lime green is not always bad. I remember stepping into an elevator at an Embassy Suites Hotel in NJ as a young lady in a lime green bikini was stepping out, wearing a big smile; she obviously knew the effect she would have on me. I never forgot that incident, and that happened over 10 years ago. Now if she were wearing a bubinga bikini I'm not so sure I'd remember it.
