okay. it's been a long haul but i think i have the room "this close" to laid out. I hate tearing out my own construction so i've really been aiming to nail down the layout of the basement before putting up walls (and figuring out how to put a closet into the new bedroom is proof i don't over think things - really it isn't).
Richteer got my to rethink having the equipment between the front speakers, so i have moved all the gear to a built in rack on the back wall which noses into my workshop. Man cave1 is giving up some space for man cave2. The rack will have it's own small ventilation system to exhaust air and perf metal doors for teeny tiny hands.
The room is intended to struggle with both 2 channel and theatre using a drop down screen. Room dimensions are close to Phi ratio 96 x 156 x 252. I plan to have curtains to pull around the room to adjust the sound for 2 channel vs DTS/dolby matrix.
Here is the layout for 2 channel. with a grouping of chairs in the back on the riser for reading or discussion and the sofa in the sweet spot.
Here is the layout for movies. The sofa slides back to the riser and the chairs form a row on the riser.
However - In all this i can't figure out where to put the darn turntable! The rack is fullish but putting it in there seems like a bad idea for the obvious reasons of putting a turntable in a closed rack. In the old house I had it sitting on the top of the Target rack, but that rack is gone.
A wall mount seems apropos, but where? back into the space between the speakers? I don't think so. The back wall is pretty full with surrounds and racks.
Anyone have an opinion?
