Cherian,

So, tell us, how do they sound? Are they proving to be as tweaky to set up as people say? How many times have you moved them? Are you glad you bought them after all?

Report!!!

We're all waiting anxiously to hear how those Monoliths sound in their new home...

--Richard

I’m sorry to report they are still not up and running yet. I assure you by this weekend they will be. I needed some new cables and an RCA splitter for the bi-amping. I have all the parts now!!! :rocker:

Yeah, you say it is because you lack the parts. But I have a new baby too, so I know why you are moving so slow. ;)

Rich,

How is it going with the new baby? Are you and your wife getting any sleep?

It was a long night for us. We just could not get her to sleep for more that 1/2 an hour.

Ouch! Haven't had any of those yet. She sleeps pretty well for two to three hours at a stretch. My wife is taking the brunt of it. She lets me sleep through the night-time feedings. I give her a break during the day so she can take a nap. So far, everything is going great. The hardest part right now is just finding free time to get anything accomplished. She takes a lot of time and attention. And with the holidays upon us, plus the normal things you have to get done, there is just no time for things like playing with audio systems. :( But we are only six weeks along and I expect things will get a little better over the next few months. I am enjoying every minute of it.

After a technical glitch I fired up the Monoliths for the first time today. My first thoughts are “WOW, what big sound!!” The sound stage is huge. It fills the entire 25’ x 25’ room with sound. I know now I made the right choice when it comes to speakers. The monoliths may lack the bass punch of the Summits (nothing 2 grottos can't fix)but, the mids and highs are as good as the Summits. I have much tweaking to do over the weeks to come.

Hmmmmm, I may need more power!!! :rocker:

Nothing a pair or MC2KW's can't fix.

More power... arr arr arr!! Are your tube amps able to do the job, Cher? Or are you looking to... ahem... upgrade?

I blew a fuse in my CJ amp due to a bad RCA splitter. So right now I have my Monarchy SE-100 working bass duty and the SM-70 working the panel. This gives me a total of 180 wpc at 8 ohms. This should be enough. I would like to see what two Pass or 2 Plinius bi-amped can do. I think 500watts per channel should do the trick. :D

Geez... a dual Plinius setup would be nuts. Let's cut a deal. You get one Plinius, I bring mine over... and we see what almost 500w of Class A does to the panels!

I'm game if you're game! :)

C'mon, Cher, let's see you open up that wallet of yours! J/K!

In the last 3 months I have spent 8k on my 2 channel audio setup. Whats another 3k? LOL! I'm thinking about it. Joey give me till the end of Feb. Should have more funds then.

Dude, you're thinking too small here. ;)

I run 800 watts to the panels and 200 watts to the woofer on mine (plus a 1,200w IB Sub).

No such thing as overkill in the power dept. Get as much as you can :D

I agree...
500W one sub, 1600W the other sub, 4 monoblocks for the logans, 2 for the surrounds and it's barely enough:D

More power argh argh argh

Poor Cherian... now because of you two crazy power maniacs, he's going to be getting 4 Plinius amps.... 2 for each speaker. If that's even possible. LOL!!

More power indeed... argh argh argh!

Did I see somewhere else that you sold your Carver Lightstar amp to fund the purchase of the Monoliths?

Oh, Cherian, say it ain't so...

That Lightstar would have driven those 'Liths like a dream. There are few SS amps that have the grace, authority, and presence of the Lightstars. I heard one ar the CarverFest this fall, and it was simply astounding--the thing just sounds like it will NEVER run out of power, no matter what load you put on it. We had one running 2 pairs of Carver ALS's and 1 pair of AL-III's, at near-performance levels for the better part of 2 hours, and it wasn't even getting warm, AND it wounded SUPER sweet. The Monoliths would be a walk in the park (and a very good match) fo the Lightstar...

Cherian,

I have a set of Sanders ESL monoblocks on order (for mid January delivery), we can use the the monoblocks for the panels and the stereo for the woofers. I will bring them over when I get them and we can see what they do with the Monoliths.

Richard,

Yes, I did sell the Lightstar Reference to fund the monolith buy. As much as I love the lightstar I got a good price for it. From what I understand you got to listen to a Lightstar 2.0 at Carverfest. If you think the 2.0 sounded good wait till you listen to the Lightstar Reference. Its night and day. The reference has even better bass control. And the reference runs HOT more like a Class A amp.

Burke, you are welcome to bring the monos over anytime. I would love know know how they sound. :rocker:

Man cave build so far

Phase one of the Man Cave build.

2 channel with the monolith and CJ gear. 5.1 with the Scenarios, Depth Cenima, Onkyo and Carver.

I will order a 50" plasma soon and hide the coax.

Cher,

Love the new rack.... and yes, the pic is a good way to truly see how monolithic the Monoliths truly are. I can recall the true size of your Scenarios and I have a good idea for how big the Monos are.

Man Cave phase 1 gets .
