Well, after the 12 hour trip from Sydney to Brisbane, the system is all set up in its new location. The best bit - everything made it in one piece!!

Here's the initial setup - just put into the room and completely untweaked.

That's the good news.

Now the bad news:

Now for the bad news - looking back the other way from the picture above, the room opens out onto this:

Any ideas on how to tame the obvious effects? Preferably without carpeting the whole thing and filling it with heavy furniture!!

A bit "live" - and not in a good sense! Harsh and muddled. On the other hand, the house is solid brick / concrete floor so the bass is the best I've ever had!

Congrats on making the trip in one piece, Amey! So... when you getting the vaunted Ayre C5xe, eh?

Joey

Looks like chain link fence on your windows. System looks great! Looks like it will be a challenge with all that open space/hard surface.

A little sound treatments would go a long way in those rooms. You don't have to go out and drop big bucks on the real stuff. A few area throw rugs will help. As will, curtains on the windows. A couple cloth panels on the walls, something like Japanese scrolls would work on the narrow spaces. Most anything to break up all the reflective surfaces.

Delighted to see I'm not the only one daft enough to put MLs in a room that doubles as a kitchen:bowdown:

Now if you could add 2 cats and a very hairy german shepherd...........;)

(ok, now I look properly and see the dog, good man!)

No Ayre just yet - I wouldn't appreciate it in that room. Acoustic treatments it is for now! Boring, but essential!

So you think a "little" sound treatments would go a "long" way? Then consider me started!

Last night I tried hanging a heavy rug over the doorway, but there was little effect.

The room doesn't totally open onto that kitchen - there is a doorway, however it doesn't close. It's an archway if you like.

amey01,

No need for the ugly acoustic treatments. I just got a Copland DRC-205 and it is amazing what it does. I highly recommend you and all the members to try it.

I don't know if it's going to fix this issue - I hear echo for at least 1/2 second after hitting "Pause" - the liveliness is that unbearable.

I have looked at the DRC-205 though and while it is a fantastic product, it only works at 16/44.1 - I don't want all my fanstastic SACDs downsampled from analogue!!

It will fix that problem with no sound degregration.

I was also looking at the DRC205, but was dismayed to find that they did not include any digital connections but only analogue. I think this will somewhat limit their sales of this unit.

Yes, I was really interested in the unit (and I have a Copland preamp which is F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C!). I have a lot of respect for the brand. But only being 16/44 and analogue really holds me back. In my system, SACD would be converted to analogue, then converted back to digital, downsampled to 16/44, then converted to analogue again.

When's the DRC 206 coming out?

On the other hand, has anyone had experience with the Inguz plugin for Slimserver? I could have a play with that now I'm running Slimserver on something a little faster than a P2!

I have a room with glass bifold doors down both sides. To tone down the reflections I bought some special curtains, I think the backing is call bumf or something like that.

The backing is designed for recording studios and it has made the room really neutral but not too dead. I live just north of Sydney so you should be able to get it.
