Ohhhh... Figueras' voice is completely divine. Unreal. I have her singing Sor, I believe with Jose Miguel Moreno. Also a disc full of nursery rhymes, but unfortunately and predictably, the music is too simple. I will give it to my friend who just had his first newborn child... She will sleep very well:music:

I actually prefer her daughter's (Arianna Savall) voice :). Sounds much fresher and light. But there are a few amazing recordings of Montserrat Figueras, and Lux Feminae is one of them.

Thank you for the rec! Even better than mom, whooaaaa. I just wrote down her name on my to-get list. I plan on going to Amoeba records (largest used classical and jazz anywhere near me) in LA sometime in the near future, want me to pick you up anything? :D Well, you are from NY, nm, you have everything you need there Im sure.

Please keep the recs coming. I am a classical nut.

From the Alia Vox label, get these:

These are more early music than classical, but should give you a nice sampling of mother, daughter, father (Jordi Savall) and son (Ferran Savall) :D. There are many others that are really really good. The recordings are simply outstanding and, in fact, there are two or three of the releases from this label that I always take with me on my auditions. The SACDs sound glorious.

Thank you again. They are already written down on the same list. The fact that you gave me Amazon attachments took a little restraint not to order all five off the bat! It might just happen very soon though....

Lugano,

I just got the Mohicans CD and love it. This CD sounds great and has a spiritual feel. I guess I will have to buy the second CD. Thanks for the tip.

Artificial Intelligence II
Yea... I know it's not Sunday morning... :D

If you like electronic music... you should give this a listen... Even though it's over 10 years old... the music sounds fresh. I'm sure it would sound perfect on any ML system... but I have to say... it sounds awesome on the 8 channel Sunfire/Summit combo. Even the wife commented on how well it sounds. I've been listening to this CD for years... but heard many new nuainces tonight...

Summits... is there anything they can do? :rocker:

Tina Brooks: True Blue A classic jazz recording originally released on Blue Note. I wish I could afford an original ($3-500 on e-bay).

All kinds of fun stuff on the turntable both yesterday and today since it's a holiday...

BTW - a BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR VETERANS!

Yesterday it was time to pull out some Frank Zappa since there have been several threads mentioning him lately. "Apostrophy" was first on the VPI, followed by a wonderfull recording of his classical (yeah - that's right, I said Frank Zappa and "Classical" in the same sentence) compositions with the London Symphony Orchestra. This was an amazing album to listen to after a few years of upgrades on the system. After that I threw on the Shostokovich Sym. No. 7 with Bernstein conducting. What was interesting was hearing how similar the Zappa and Shostokovich were musically.

This morning I started with Miles Davis and Gil Evans "Porgy and Bess" on a sweet Columbia six eye pressing I have. Miles muted trumpet made me think of some later period Talk Talk, so that came up from the basement! I'd always been a fan of Talk Talk's "new wave" type stuff, but for me they didn't really hit their stride until "The Color of Spring" and "Spirit of Eden". Let me tell you, both of these albums sound GREAT on the Martin Logans. The guitar solo from "I Don't Believe You" on "The Color of Spring" will take your breath away, and they somehow manage to make a harmonica sound downright menacing on the first cut of "Spirit of Eden". Both albums absolutely set the stage for the "Post Rock" genre and are heavy influences for bands like RadioHead, Coldplay and Sigur Rus that would come a decade later.

If you have either of these gems in your collection but haven't given them a spin in awhile, pull them out and give the Logans a good workout!

Try this one: Jessica Molaskey - Sitting In Limbo. It's jazz, folk, pop backed by some really worthy musicians and her husband John Pizzarelli on guitar. Terrific sonics to boot!

Rodrigo Y Gabriela: I am so digging this CD. This is an awesome CD with guitar duet.

Bill Evans: Time Remembered; Coleman Hawkins: The Hawk Flies High.

Last week it was Smashing Pumpkins, this week it's.............

Classical.

First off is MoFi's G. Holst, The Planets. This SACD has dynamics to spare.

Next up is Pops Roundup, an RCA Living Stereo CD. There is something so charming about the music on this CD. Maybe it is because my dad was a big western fan when he was growing up and I have seen more than my share of the movies associated with that theme. But the recording is very clear and the arrangements (including the "coconut horses hooves" sounds) make for a very cheerful listening session.
