My Vantages come in on Tuesday. I have read/searched up to page 60 here before asking this.

The Descent i is a very good match for the Vantage, I've gotten that much.

Would a pair of Velodyne DD-10's be to an advantage to me?

My thought is to put one near each Vantage and utilize the room correction software. I'd use RCA's off the back off the pre amp (McIntosh C2200) since it does not have a subwoofer out plug.

Any thoughts?

Martin Logan subs are servo controlled and match well with the Vantage Speakers. The question is: are you going to listen to 2 channel for music or Home theatre? If you are interested in the best for 2 channel music, I would consider a more musical sub like the Martin Logan line or Rel. Some subs muddy up the transparency & detail which the ML Vantage speakers bring out.
Go to your dealer and demo some subs out when you have time. The Vantage speakers with the built in powered woofer will give you plenty of bass until you find the sub for you.

PS the rca jacks work great on the McIntosh Preamps. I prefer this connection for subs rather than the sub out.

I also have the Vantage speaker with a Mac Amp. I tried to match up my Velodyne DD15. No luck for 2 channel music. Excellent with HT though.

Gordon, I can tell this much, the Velodyne "DD" series of subs are very musical.

Now, weather or not a pair of 10's or a single 12 or 15 is best depends on your room (volume) and placement. I'm using a single 15, my primary concern is wo channel music, while Dan(DTB300) uses two subs(Paradigm I think ??) one in the front and the other in the rear for a real nice lower octive integration for all things multi-channel. Hopefully he will chime in here for some good insight as well.

What is the size of your room ?

You must have some strange room anomalies, or placement concerns, for the "DD" series of subs are very adaptive.

My room measures 11.5 X 24 X 8. There is an opening along the left wall about 7 ft which is the entry to the dining room. I have hardwood floors with some area rugs laying around for the dog to shed on!!

Since the HT is in the basement, we use the living room for only for listening to music or reading.

I'm not certain at this point if I need a sub at all. I have Paradigm Signature
S8's and they produce enough bass for my needs without a sub. The Descent i seemed to blend nicely with the Vantage's. I want to get them home and play them for awhile before I make a decision.

I was thinking about the twin 10's for balance. Or, one large sub either a 15 or the Descent? I will say I'm not well versed in trying to integrate 2 subs!! Had a heck of a time doing 1 in the HT.

Smart move, I do think one sub, the Descent i or a DD-15 would be a good choice and would serve you well.

Possibility the placement The sub is behind my seating area at the corner facing along the length of the couch which is the seating area. 90 degrees from the front speakers which are facing the couch. Any way I love the base coming just from the Vantages which are set at +4. For HT everything is perfect.

Gordon,
From personal experience in trying to intergrate subs in my listening area, the best thing I did was download and use the test tones from the "RealTraps" web site. I have a room where the 11.5' and the 8' ceiling are the same and man, can that wreak havoc with the lower octaves. The test tones will give you a very good idea of where is Hot and where is not. I also suggest letting the main speakers break in completely before going with a sub, as you may find yourself overwhelmed by bass when that happens if you've installed a sub from day one.
Plus, it may save you some heavy coin. I was lucky (relatively) by having two recycled subs to work with and my expenditure before finding out that I was better off without was limited to an extra amp and seperate crossover (that still hurt).
Two tangents to go off on that many others here have done is to look into room treatments and equalization. Try to get the best out of what you have at hand before adding more sound producing sources.
