I have a new set of Source speakers and when I turn them up loud I get static 'pops'

I have cleaned the grills and the pops are still there.

I don't hear them at lower volumes.

Could this be a result of my AVR clipping?
All I have is an Onkyo rc270 at 100w per channel. I am listening to them 'pure audio' so they are the only thing in the AVR being powered.

Help?

The avr could be clipping as your speakers are dipping down in ohms .

Have you been playing for more than 4 hours because that onkyo is not 100 watt per channel I guarantee you

Your speaker cables may not be secure or up to snuff

Try borrow some equipment from a friend to check them out or get more hours on them

The prob seems like its a avr power supply or cable connecting prob either going into or coming out of your avr

After listening to some CDs and my iPod at high levels I am starting to this that it is a problem related to Pandora radio.

From looking around the net this seems to be a common problem.

I may look into a 'cheap' amp such as the entry level Emotiva. Some nice speaker cables would be a good idea too.

Emotiva is a cheap solution but why not try a cheap tube integrated amp with them source as tubes really bring the logans midrange magic out best for digital music
