Repainting side trim panels

I'm thinking of repainting the side trim panels on my Request, they are clean oak at the moment.
Has anyone done this and maybe can post some pictures?

Just to get the feel of a new color i put red stickers on them and i actually think they look more modern.

I've been tempted to do the same on my Monolith rails (they are light Oak), but always chicken out, as I don't want to do something permanent. Lately, I've been thinking that using Vynil Wrap (like for cars and stuff) would be a nice, (relatively) easy to remove option.

I've seen videos of guys using Vynil wrap to change colors on bookshelf or center speakers, and it does not seem that hard to do. The surface area is fairly small relative to the minimum wrap sizes, so it seems one could screw up once or twice and still have material left.

The nice thing about wraps is there are tons of very cool colors and patterns (like realistic-looking carbon-fiber) to try.

If you are all thumbs, then you could hire a wrap-specialist to come do it for you. Contact shops that do window-tinting and vehicle wraps.

That's a good idea i might consider.

I have never removed the trim panel so i don't know what they look like on the inside but they can not be that hard to duplicate?
Maybe i should have a second set manufactured so i can have the originals if i sometime in the distant future decide to sell the speakers.

Nice, I recall seeing a Summit with a red frame and even red spars at the factory tour we did in 2007. Looked sharp.

I am going to repaint my original Sequels (serial numbers under 1000) when I replace the panels this summer. The original paint was that special Nexus or whatever it was called with oak trim. The original paint had a kind of rough surface that was suppose to have some sound absorption quality. It also was a bitch to clean dust from and since1987 has been rubbed smooth. I am thinking of sanding it with steel wool and painting it high gloss with black urethane.

Did you paint the cabinet or just the trim? What paint did you use?

I've always been happy with the look of my golden oak SL3's.... but now you've got me rethinking it... that red looks great! Maybe I'll sand them down and refinish them with a red stain to keep that wood grain visible.

There was a post on here somewhere abouyt that old, rough finish being discontinued due to toxicity... if so, sanding it without proper cleaning/ventilation could be a bad idea. I'll see if I can dig up that post...

I only painted the side trim panels.
The red has color code Ral 2020, called traffic red.

A local kitchen cabinet painter did the painting for about 50 euro.
