I agree, the CLS2, 2a (and to a lesser degree) 2z are a tougher load and amp stability is paramount.
I was referring to EAR driving an old set of CLS. Most of my listening to all of the CLS range has been with big (ish) SS amps and I was impressed with that valve matching.
I agree also re "loudness"..I used the word really to indicate that the amp had superb control into pretty high volume. It wasn't my amp so I didn't try it on any of the 2 series.
