At full capability, a future rail gun will be able to fire a projectile more than 200 nautical miles (ten times farther than current Mk 45 five inch guns) at a muzzle velocity of mach seven and impacting its target at mach five. These high velocity projectiles will be able to destroy targets by kinetic energy, rather than with conventional explosives.
Guns are scary. I don't like them one bit. I don't ever want to shoot any gun! I prefer peace, love and an administration who feels war is not the answer. :rocker:
They are more than scary. They are a self fulfilling prophecy. We all know the usual circular arguments that are endemic to the "right to bare arms".
All I know is that I grew up in Detroit where the city had an average homicide rate of 800 to 900 deaths per year linked directly to firearms.
IMHO, all one needs to do is read the news regarding recent deaths at the Omaha mall and the slaughter of 32 people innocent people at a university back east. Sorry but I don't recall the school. And how about "Cookie" who, three days ago, blew away several Town Council members, a policeman, and the mayor because he was upset about some unpaid parking tickets. And then, of course, there was Columbine.
I fully support individuals having a gun to legally hunt where the food goes on the table and the hunting fees are used for wildlife mangement.
Other than that, more guns mean more senseless violent deaths at the hands of people who have access to a gun.
My favorite story, circa 1991, was when the NRA opposed the ban on tephlon coated bullets. These bullets were designed to pierce "protective body armor" worn by police officers and such. Upon hearing this, George Bush Sr. announced he was cancelling his membership to the NRA.
I fully expect the usual replies of guns don't kill people, people kill people. At some point, this country will hopefully wake up and realize that the number of guns that exist in this country, along with the relative ease of purchasing a firearm, are directly related to the hideous homicide rate in the USA and creates and fosters a self fulfilling / self destructive prophecy.
Sorry gentlemen. With all due respect, I just don't get it.
GG
PS: For my personal protection, I have a can of bear spray in my house just in case. As effective as a gun but no one dies.
No problem. Didn't intend to hijack the thread. My sincere apologies if I upset anyone.

I don't think your post is offensive it just is another point of view on guns. Someone may want to shoot a "super duper 8484 caliber rifle (I make stuff up sometimes)" you just want to make a point about gun control and guns in society. I do not see how it is all that different. All opinions...
That is not what this thread is about...take it elsewhere as previously suggested por favor... I prefer to have the right to keep and bear arms as I see fit and will vote so that I can continue to do so. If you choose not to keep and bear arms yourself that is your choice.
And not a single one of my MANY, MANY guns has EVER crawled its way out of my vault, safe, or holster to kill anyone or even just randomly fire. I agree that when someone gets mad it is much easier to kill if they have access, but because of the shear volume of guns (and many have come here on the black market from China and Russia) there will ALWAYS be guns for the criminal element who want them. You will never be able to ELIMINATE ALL the guns and then all you are doing is arming the criminals. Ask anyone in Australia, they took all the guns out of law abiding citizens hands. It is also amazing how you NEVER, EVER here about all the folks who have saved their own life, that of their friends and neighbors and protected property with the use of personal firearms, sometimes they don't even use them to kill. Only when someone goes crazy and kills a bunch of people do you hear about it. That is when it suits the radical left leaning news agencies and the sensationalism of the news today in general. *rant off*
Sorry, now back to the proper topic.
I LOVE that new military shotgun. That thing is AWESOME! NO RECOIL! WOW! I would LOVE to pump a few rounds out of that bad boy!
<sigh>
Gordon graciously apologized. I enthusiatically thanked him for his courtesy. No harm no foul. See how easy that was Diamonds?
Now learn from the exchange and stop trolling. Just start another thread on how much you hate guns. Don't derail this one.
Returning to the topic...
I think I'll buy that Springfield M21 Tactical with about 1,000 rounds tomorrow. I hope Larry's still has one in stock.
Then again, there's a new gun store I've not yet visited next to the Public's grocery store near my house.
This is the one I want.....
