Making a decision on what to buy.

Aerius i, 7 yo, close to 1000$. Maybe I would have to buy new panels, if needed, maybe a sub, again if needed.

Paying close to 3000$ for vantage. No need for new panels or sub.

Paying close to 2500$ for vista. No new panels needed, but maybe I would need sub(s). But I've read that sub and vista don't go that well. Is it true?

So what am I suppose to do?

Help me make a wise choice.

Quality is a factor here.

If that's the only price difference between the vista and the vantage...I'd go vantage, no question. At full retail for each of the new speakers, I think the answer is a little less clear... (I personally would go for the vista over vantage when looking at full retail prices...and my budget priorities) ... but vantages for $3k are a steal.

Assuming the electronics don't need upgrading, then go with the Vantages.

However, if you need a new amp (high current) or a better pre-amp, maybe the Aerius i + new pre-amp/amp is better.

All things being equal, I would also get the Vantages if you could afford them. They are certainly a step up from the Aerius i (again it is tough to answer the question...are they really worth the extra $2k?).

Another angle - should you decide to sell the Vantages 2-3 years later, you'll still get a fair amount of money for them.

daniel,

I'm no expert but my Vistas with the Depth i sub is an awesome sounding combo. Very musical and involving... I don't have anything around here to compare it to, except live :)

I've built my whole system, Dang, my whole living room around the Vistas and now they light up like a pinball machine and pay off in silver dollars!

i kicked around the exact same question here a month ago - vista/sub or vantage. got a used vantage in great shape and never looked back, very happy (although i am still toying with the idea of adding a depth to it...)

I went from Aerius i's to Vista's (man, I wish I got $1000 for my Aerius's) :p

and I would definitely recommend going with the newer models as long as the expense is within your budget. I also agree that given the relatively small difference in the cost between Vista and Vantage for you, I would recommed going with the Vantage as well.

However, I disagree with the wisdom that you don't need a sub with the Vantage. If you are only doing music, then the Vantage would be satisfactory for most music, but if home theater is in the works, then you will need a sub regardless of whether you get the Vista's or the Vantages. Even with Jazz and especially with large scale classical I find the sub adds weight to the music that becomes addictive.

I have an SVS PC-Ultra that blends quite well with my Vista's and of course there are the ML subs which are designed to be used with everything they sell including the new CLX.

Just my 2 cents.

I think the decision is between Vantage (because of the small proce difference b/w Vantage and Vista) and Aerius. I would go with the Vantage if I already had good components and a well treated room. I would go with the Aerius if my system was not yet up to par or my room was untreated. Because a lot of this hobby is experiential, it is hard to comprehend without listening what kind of a difference a good room, or say, a good source would make.

That said, $500 can go a long way with room treatments, so Vistas may not be a bad choice either.

Disclaimer: I own the Vantage

It seems that the Vantages are the winners!

As my wife told me "Don't settle with anything less than what you wish for".

These are wise words. My girlfriend said practically the same thing but after buying the Vantages I still think of swapping to Summits.:D;)

That's what I did when I bought my turntable. An Oracle Delphi IV. I still love the sound and the look of it.
