Hi all
Prior to this, the space shown with my system in it was dominated by a massive, and massively ugly, oak entertainment center circa early 90s. A garage sale on Saturday took care of that, and on Sunday, I moved my gear in! Along the way, I replaced the output tubes in my Citation II with a matched set of KT88 Gold Lions. The previous 6550s started giving up the ghost. However I'm not too upset. They'd been in near daily use since 1955 in various equipment and with various owners. Pretty good, huh?:rocker: Now that this system is in an environment where it's able to "breathe" properly, and also acoustically more ideal than the 10x13 space it was in prior, well, I'm just amazed! In fact a neighbor came knocking on my door asking me where I'd learned to play guitar. Said neighbor almost fell on the ground when shown that in fact a stereo system was doing the work! So far imaging and depth has been really awesome. I know I've got some work to do, like organizing the wiring and perhaps a better way to mount the gear, for which I apologize in advance! I did try my little eBay amp that I made, but it wasn't too happy in the size room it was trying to build decent SPLs for. Hopefully soon I'll have my 280 watt monoblocks up and running for some real power.
No matter what I've got to work on acoustics, which should be straightforward. And artwork. Should I hang my 1959 Jackson ******* or my turn of the century Monet on the wall?;) Yeah, I wish! :D
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!

That should give the tube naysayers something to think about!

Many (most?) people who think tubes might be high maintenance were not even born (much less sentient beings!) any of the time when tubes were all we had! Even when the television era began in 1949, it was going to be a good 15 years before the switchover to solid state TV became significant,

And try as I might, I can't remember the public complaining that electronic tubes in their radios, TV's, were a constant nuisance. No one bothered to offer insurance or service policies until later on. The first real bitching (from the public) started w/ color picture tubes because they were expensive and the set usually had to go back to the shop.

My McIntosh MC275 has fixed bias (fixed at the factory!) and because it takes power from both the plate and the cathode of each tube, it delivers a full 90W/ch from a pair of KT-88's while running cool as a cucumber. In my case, I live in Tucson, and run some expensive NOS Gold Lion KT-88's, so I pamper them with some ultra quiet computer case fans:

They're original Sequels, circa 1988. They're due for new panels and I want to strip the Nextel off the cabinets, do some crossover upgrades, etc.
I think they'd look great in piano black lacquer.

*BUMP*:D
What a difference the size of a room makes! I've been listening to all my standard reference CDs and LPs and it's like they're new to me. But I've also recognized that I've got a lot of work to do on the room's acoustics. I have some good ideas on what to do thanks to what other members have posted on the Forum, so hopefully I'll be able to implement those mods soon. Nothing permanent, though; eventually I'll be selling the place. A dedicated man cave will have to wait.:rocker:
