CLX is a superior transducer to Apogee DS Graz mod (this is what Justin is really trying to say... I'm just paraphrasing) ;)

Feeling insecure, Todd?:) Of course the Apogees are better - I've been trying to tell you all that, as politely as possible, for freakin' ages:):ROFL:

This is a fascinating thread IMO... I can relate in one way or another to most everyone's position.

- While I like a very broad range of music, there are some genres I don't always care for. Being any more specific than that doesn't matter since to-each-his-own.
- I love music, but I love the record/playback technology behind it as well... and as that technology advances, so does my fascination. Of course nothing beats live! (unless something's gone wrong).

Agree:rolleyes:

Also, my priorities took a 90-degree turn when my health took the same turn a few years ago; now it's the music more than the equipment that matters. That said, I'm still lusting after the ARC Anniversary Preamp that's on sale on Audiogon, and it's in Toronto, a mere 5-hour drive away!

Beek, honorable choirmaster, glad to be of assistance.

Hey B, I hope there is nothing too serious going on inside that body of yours.

On the other hand, if you only have a week left to live, buy that preamp immediately!:)

It's serious, but under control. I keep forgetting that I'm an engineer, not a doctor, so I can't play with the meds. So it's back to listening to my sawbones.

I will be here much longer than a week, if only to afflict the comfortable - that's you, mate ! If I had only a week to live, that preamp would be the death of me - it takes longer than a week to break-in. The ad says that it is brand new; the owner has two but needs only one ! Imagine the luxury !

You best stick around afflicting for much, much longer, Bernard. Much:)
I will be here to see Mariah's children's children's children ! :p

Apologies to the Moody Blues. Now there was a great "rock" group !

Something regarding my CLXs= 1) violin has never sounded as it does now in my system 2) guitar= has never sounded as it does now 3) piano= has never sound as it does 4) bass and double bass= has never sounded... 5) brass= 6) percussion 7) congas 8) drums 9 ) cymbals 10) strings 11) organ 12) harp 13) tuba 14) Hammnod 3B 15) electric guitar 16) renacense original instruments 17) Bach 18) Vivaldi ) 19 Handell 20) Guilianni 21) Cimarosa 22) Mozart 23) Beethoven, Stravinsky, Paganinni, Tarrega, Barrios, Manuel de Falla, Rodrigo, ...Clapton, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Pat Metheney, Rachel Talitman (Harp) Lajos Lencses (oboe), the heart of the musician(s) playing just there, in my room... do you understand me? I love any kind of music, and for the first time in my life, I have this listening pleasure where I do like all kind and type of music... now I listen the feeling of the musician(s) because it is more evident and easy to listen. Nuances and dynamics are very nice and controlled. The space between instrumenst have tons of air and less congestion, ... they really sing for me very nice. ML has rise their retail price on sep 01 and now these babies retails for $ 25.500.00. Here in Costa Rica, you find crazy guys, and one of them is my cousin Mario who owns a pair of the Focal, JM Labs Grand Utophia... to my ears, one of the best dynamic speakers that I really liken costing twice or more, and I do not change my CLXs. I listen more musician(s) and their soul, than what I get there at his place-dedicated room. I hate to do comparison, and the truth is: my heart is with ML sound. All ML has a kind of magic that it is difficult to express. We, all at this forum, are aware of this... and does not matters the kind of music that we listen through them... right? It is like an open window to the pleasure of music and musician(s). Happy week-end listening!!!

You enjoy also Roberto, I wonder if those moments are tied to Climate/mental mood/intoxication its nice when they come around...:D

Yes!!! that's the thing. And also, God will discount from our lives, the time we had spent listening to music! And the recordings make a difference if you are an audiophile, and do not if you are a music lover. But the ML magic exists in both worlds!! The ones that we like a good, well done recording and the other, like a customer that I have, who owns original mono recordings at 78 RPM listening to Carusso and Carlos Gardel through his beloved ML Prodigies. For our ears, transparency, open window, size and air between instruments, vocal(s), you name it, are reproduced as no other speakers on the planet. I am not saying that out there are better speakers than ML, but you have to pay many, many, many more, and perhaps even that, you will stick with ML sound. My dear friends, we are dealing with one of the best sound available through the world on these days!!! You can get horns, (that's what you get, horn sound) other planar aproach, but they are not that fast. Our diaphragm in ML weights less than the air that it moves, think in physics! no inertia. The closest sound wave to the original source. Put your ears very close to any tweeter, no matter what brand is, and listen the high distortion that you get there... and put your ears to the panel, you do not worry, you will not get shock, and listen the free distortion of the signal...pure music!... yes, they are not perfect, but the small flaws are forgiven when we have that kind of special, fabulous, dramatic, easy to listen sound in our own place.

Hola Roberto, very nicely stated. The Focal Grand Utophia is indeed a very fine speaker. I have from time to time considered getting a pair for one of my other systems but my favorite remains the CLX's.

On February 5, 1993 I had the pleasure of attending the world premier of Witold Lutoslawski's 4th symphony. Conducted by Lutoslawski with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the 4th challenged the audience as it shifted routinely from tense and biting to tranquil and soft. I had attended a lecture by Lutoslawski just prior the the premier and he described the 4th as more musical than many of his previous works but cautioned listeners not to expect a "tune". Indeed as I listened to the premier my ears, emotions and intellect were challenged.

Today, when I play the Esa-Pekka Salonen 1994 recording of the Lutoslawski 4th, the CLX's deliver. The CLX's bring the full emotion to each instrument and you can forget about your system and be captured by the music.

Opppsss sorry Bernard... at very soft, not high level, the one that will not hurt a fly ( I do not know if a fly has ears) and do the test... you will be amazed how clean is ML, and how dirty are the others...

So you're saying that from other tweeters you get high distortion even at very low levels ?

Bernard can be our "panelist"... ;)
The only speakers I have are Logans, so I will have to beg off. No inclination to change, despite hearing some great MBL's at the Montreal show. We have to volunteer Wardsweb, who has a gazillion systems.

Totally. I put the Kinks track on last night - and - er - um - it sounded great!

Beer. Wonderful stuff.:)
