Hey Everyone, I am considering purchasing a McIntosh Integrated MA6300 for my Vantages. The MA6300 is rated for 100 wpc @ 8 ohms or 160 wpc @ 4 ohms (which is what the Vantages are). I am pretty dead-set on getting either the MA6300 or possibly the MA6500, which is rated a little higher. Any suggestions? I just want to make sure the MA6300 wont 'struggle' to drive the Vantages. Thanks.

Hola. You can use from 20W/channel to 500W/channel with no problem. (Recommended Amplifier Power 20‒500 watts per channel). You can't struggle the speaker, you may struggle the amplfier!... happy listening!

I think you should be fine with 160 wpc. I use a Conrad Johnson Amp that is rated at 200 wpc @ 8 ohm so I'm driving it with considerably more power at 4 ohms and I have not had any problems. Since the sub has it's own power supply this should also help compared to other speakers. Let us know how it sounds when your all set up!

Key question - what about the instantaneous impedance dips at higher frequencies? The Vantage can dip down to as low as 1 ohm. Is either amp stable down that low?

Thanks folks for the help. I just figured at lower resistance, the speakers could be a little power (wattage) hungry. Also, I had read that some people thought the MA6300 did not perform well at elevated volumes. Thanks again. :)

Did you know that the sensitivity of the Vantages is 92 dB/2.83V/m? In other words, easy to drive with low power amps, not hungry power as the old design. Of course you can listen the difference between power amps, but not because due to their power, it is because quality watts. Quality watts are better than quantity watts!!!. Happy listening! and trust your ears, not in specs.

Thanks Roberto. I'm glad to know the speakers won't be power thirsty.
