Proud new owner of a pair of SL3's and Logos center channel. When unpacking the Logos at home, I noticed the foam inserts in the speakers were loose as was the metal grate that spans the inside of the center channel. Can someone confirm how these pieces are supposed to be correctly oriented so I can put it back in place? Pics would be very helpful!

Brabus, I used to have a logos.

First, What foam inserts?

Can you please post a pic of your unit, then we can better comment on what should or should not be there.

I'll also dig around for some pics of my old center.

i have a logos and i have to echo Jon - what foam? and is it the perfed panel behind the mylar that is loose?

did someone "add" foam to keep the loose metal from rattling? i can't get pictures of mine until monday, could you also post pictures of yours?

Here are the pics. I think I figured out where they go. There are 2 of them and kind of wedge shaped. Looks like they go on either side of the center cone speaker. Can someone confirm?

Also not sure about the mesh grate metal piece and where that should be oriented. I have my finger on that one.

And I know this is off topic, but I just found a carver silver 7t amp (monoblocks) for $1200. Is this a good deal and will it power my newly acquired SL3's? Thanks much for the help everyone!

Brabus,

Man, that looks like the unit has been modded.

First, never seen a Logos with a straight perforated grille inset like yours depicts. It’s clearly non-functional, so why is it there?

Also, the foam on the box in your pics is aftermarket (if the factory had done that, it would have been black foam, or more likely a composite absorption blanket of multiple materials.

It is true that the reflections from the woofer box in the Logos caused huge comb-filtering. So some absorption is a good idea.

Here’s a pic of the bottom of a Logos taken from a factory brochure.

From your pic it looks like the perforated grill should be parallel with the front grill right? I thought it was but couldn't figure out how to 'attach' it. as I didn't see any screws, tabs or insets. Right now it is kind of 'free floating' in there.

Anyone have more closeups of the originals so I can compare? I just want to make sure this is set up right so I don't break anything.:D

Id be willing to bet tat the straight panel is actually supposed to be bent and held in the rear covering the foam ! I bet it came loose and lost its hold !

well, i took a few shots of my logos just now, but i can't upload until monday (no card reader at home, forgot it at work) :)

looking REAL close there does seem to be a piece of foam like your yellowish one behind the rear grill. but it's real hard to see, i think that i picked it up on the camera.

the real weird part is that rear gill of yours. it should be curved parallel to the mylar and front grill. that rear grill should also be held in place by the wooden frame. so instead of triangular foam inserts holding it in place back against the wooden "box" the grill should be located about 1/4" back behind the front edge of the wooden box.

it looks like these were dissasembled, and then put back together with the grill in the wrong place, and the foam pieces were added to hold the drill in place. i don't see how you would put the grill back in the correct location without taking the logos apart and reassembling correctly.

i'll put up my pictures, but this one might be one for Jim.

I just replaced both the panel and the 6 1/2 inch woofer for the LOGOS. The front panel is held in place by 2 allen head screws on the inside of each end of the front panel. Then the curved panel that holds the foam in place is held in by about 10 srews with tabs. If you send me an email I can send you diagrams and instructions that show how to assemble and dis-assemble the Logos. I am guessing the somehow the screw tabs came loose in transit and so you will need to take the front panel off to put the panel cover back in place.

I have a pair of original Sequels, and have been driving them with Carver Silver 7t's for over 10 years. They sound FANTASTIC, and I would highly recommend them, with the caveat that you need to have the right kind of front end (you need a VERY quiet preamp, and your digital front-end needs to be as transparent and detailed as you can get).

Also, the Silver7t/Sequel combination is VERY sensitive to speaker wires. You need to be sure you use a low resistance/low capacitance speaker cable, something with a LOT of resolution and speed. I have had little luck with ANYTHING from Audioquest--they just don't sound good to me. Monster is equally disappointing, with the exception of an old pair of M-1's that I have. Nordosts sound VERY good with the Carver/Sequel combo--I use Solar Winds, and they sound very sweet. I've also had some cables from Transparent that sound good, and I tried some Syergistics that sounded good too...

I also have a Logos center, and I think you will find it is a delightful match to the Sequel-line speakers in a 5.1 system. My modest rig sounds pretty good for movies--BluRay soundtracks are astounding! My sweetie and I haven't felt the need to go to a "real theater" in about 2 years...

Good luck with you rnew gear! Is sounds like we are going to have VERY similar systems if you stay on the same path. Please click on the link in my signature line to see the details (and pics) of my system.

Hopefully you were able to get and open the document on assembly and dis-assembly instructions for the Logos Center Channel that I sent to you this morning. Let me know if you need anything else

You folks have more patience than I do!
I would have returned it to where I bought the Logo, and exchanged for a "perfect" condition model. Or, shipped it to ML for repair.

Glad to see you could help each other out.
