Hi Guys,

I currenty have a depth sub and saw a new Descent i in my area at a good deal. Is there much of a difference?and if so , what is it?ML said that perhaps the depth is faster and I should listen to a descent. I don't have that opportunity, so I thought I would ask you guys.My room is 12x20.

Thanks, Greg

I own a Depth and I have listened to the Descent. I however have not listened to the Descent I. I like the Descent much more than the depth. If I had the money I would go with a Descent. I can only assmue the Descent i is even better.

Cherian,

What were the reasons you preferred the descent to the depth?

It's bigger.....and we all know size counts:D

FWIW, I have listened to the Depth i with CLXs and they sounded pretty nice. At least there was nothing obviously lacking. When the Depth i was turned on it really did make a difference with the CLXs.

With that said, I opted for the Descent i with my CLXs, I guess because the Martin Logan rep who was actually there at the demo told me that the Descent i was what they used at the Martin Logan factory and that everything about the CLX had been tuned for the Descent i. In other words the sales guy convinced me that bigger was better.:D

I felt the Descent integrated better with the big logans and did not distort as much at higher volume levels.

Would adding another depth to my system be better than going to 1 descent i sub?I have read that many feel having dual subs is the way to go.

I have the Descent i and it integrates very well with my CLSIIz's or kicks butt when doing HT duty.. I had a Depth i for a short time and soon traded that in for the Descent i. The Descent i goes lower and can produce more clean bass energy for a larger room.

On the other hand, the Depth i is a more compact size and allows more placement options in a room. It also is light enough that one person can pick it up and move it, the Descent i takes two. The Depth i is quite capable with clean tight sounding bass you can hear and feel. It's an excellent choice to augment the low end of a 2 channel system as well as hold its own in an HT setup. The Descent I has a balanced LFE input while the Depth I does not but then The Depth I cost much less.

If reaching the lowest notes is not most important or you don't have a large open room that you need to energize then the Depth i will work well. I would go with two Depth i's over a single Descent i especially if the emphasis is on 2 channel music. If you have the room and funds then go all out with 2 Descent i's. As long as you're not thoroughly confused at this point.
