Hey guys, its been a while since I posted anything here. I have been reading about ML placement and rooms in some threads and have tried a few different things like moving out the speakers a bit from the front wall but I seem to have trouble getting a solid center image. It seems to always stray left a little bit and I am not sure what this means. I have tried facing the speakers at many different angles towards the center but I couldn’t get it right. I believe I did get a better center image before I moved my speakers out this much, but I wanted to try to get a bit more depth, and I know around 4-5 ft is recommended by many here.
I have a pair of Sources, 4 1/2 ft from the front wall and 2 1/2 ft from the side walls. I have included some photos of my room setup to maybe get a few opinions on what I can do better without having to change everything, and having to spend a lot of money. The room I am using is not totally closed in but is part of an open layout sort of basement. I am thinking the way I have the speakers set up right now that I may be sitting too close, my ears are probably 7 ft from the speakers when sitting and the seat I am using, probably 6 ft.
I do not have treated walls, but I have seemed to kill some slap echo by placing a sleeping bag onto the left wall. There is still a little bit of slap echo on both sides in the corners. I have been getting a pretty nice sound out of these Sources, it is just getting frustrating that I can’t get a solid center vocal locked in, when I feel I am perfectly in the center in my seat. And the only other thing I can think of that bothers me sometimes is a little bit of mid range fatigue on some recordings.
Anyway, bottom line is I would appreciate any help at all or opinions on things I can do to get the best out of my listening space. Thanks very much.
-Eric.
Couple of notes about the room and the photos. 1st one is of the room setup from far away showing the back of where my listening position is; there is another couch up against the back of the one I use for listening which is facing a TV on the wall on that side.
Also the right wall in the listening space goes a few feet further than the left wall which is shown in the 2nd photo.
