I saved a very good article which articulated the deficiencies that Bose have and cannot seem to find it.

I have a friend who would very much like to see it.

I am hoping someone might have the link stored away??

I was as bad as a BOSE bash-er as could be. That being said ,I had a few minutes to kill the other day and went in to a BOSE store here . I was really taken back at their new computer monitors with their digital tweaking. I did sit in for a listen of their Lifestyle 48 system and it was truly a great demo. They had a cinema seating area with dim lights and bigger boxes on the wall with a rack of electronics . They went through a 15 min spiel and some demos . After they shut the lights down low and played some movie clips and demo stuff they revealed the boxes were actually covering their little cubes and the electronics were fake also. They also demonstrated the room correction factor for irregular HT rooms. It was not that bad a sounding system . Was it worth $3800.00..........NO WAY ! However it was a nice put together demo. I will look into their Computer set up more ! By the way I have a BOSE factory set up that I have tweaked. ( I added 2 10 inch subs with a digital amp. I added 2 more factory tweeters and Xovers from the front pillars to my rear pillars . ) This is in my truck , it rivals most aftermarket stuff out !

Sorry to go off topic !

Back to your regular scheduled bashing !

They spend a ton on advertising. Make questionable claims. And sale a product that is made as cheaply as possible. (Sounds like the cable industry but I don't see any audiophiles up in arms about that.)

As a former owner of their flagship product (901s and it was my first "hi-fi" purchase and I was only 20 and I will never do it again, promise) I can attest that they cannot compete on merits of sound quality. But they do deliver an "experience" whether it is ease of setup or a very big (if obtuse) sound stage. They do sound good in a store, probably due to boosting of certain key frequencies. Eventually, true audio enthusiasts will find the music dull and boring and move on to something better.

Bose is a testament that advertising does indeed work.

I think we're losing C.A.P.... must get him back....

Joey :D

Oh no ! I didn't say I was BLOSE friendly ! Remember I had to mod my system in my truck to get it right ! (No highs .No lows ) and the PC system for your desk was worth looking at again !

I did have to come home a reward my ears with the glory of a good Martin Logan ear bath to cleanse them of the digital rubbish they had been filled with !:haha1:

Ok, let me just say this. I have a BOSE Lifestyle 50 in my bedroom. It is small unobtrusive, SUPER easy to set up and flexible. YEA, it sure does not have the bottom or the top of my system and the resolution is just not there, but for casual low volume listening as you would do in a bedroom watching a movie it is fine. If you didn't have something else to compare to you might even think it was good. If you just play the same thing on a very average system you WILL hear what you are missing on the Bose...it is REALLY hard for me to watch something on DVD and then go watch it on the BOSE in the bedroom...it is like WHERE DID ALL THE SOUND GO?!

Small and ease of set up...that is what makes the Bose nice.

Their aircraft noise cancelling head phones are VERY GOOD INDEED though! I use them when I pilot aircraft or fly along with friends...no comparison! I don't mind the Wave radio either.

I can understand that. As far as the headphones, I listened and wanted but my audiophile in me would not let me. I then bought some Sure E3c had custom earmolds done and WOW. They are great. Also, excellent for all the flying I do as a passenger. They block out all the twin turbo prop noise or jet noise depending on the plane. I highly recommend them. Also, the ipod and Meier Corda headphone amp are a nice bonus.

I also have a pair of Shures - fantastic in my opinion and far more effective than any active noise cancelling system.

I do laugh at the "No highs, no lows, must be Bose" statement though - from my experience Bose is all highs and lows - no mids!! They produce a "boom-tizz" response which is what makes them appealing on first listen (but not long thereafter)!

What I don't understand is how Bang and Olufsen stays in business. I have nothing against this company, it just that I don't understand their product line. It seems to be all about appearance and thin on sound quality at a premium price. Most of their equipment seems to be designed for hanging on hanging on a wall and I'm not just talking about the speakers. I visit The large mall in Tysons Corner, VA when I'm in town on business and no one is in there. Not even when the mall is packed with Chrsitmas shoppers. If there business is doing fine, I don't see it.

Anyone have any experience with B&O equipment? How well does it perform? Better than Bose?

Well, B&O is venturing into car audio...the new Audi A8/S8 will have a $7000 optional audio system from B&O. Yes, $7000!!!

B&O = High-end BOSE or BOSE with a larger profit margin:D

I know what you mean - the B&O store here in Sydney is a bit sparsely populated as well. I know the people they appeal to though - the "more money than sense" brigade - people that want something "premium" but have no understanding of what they should be receiving for their price. Sort of like people that pay Swiss watches for an Armani watch or some other designer brand that is not made in Switzerland.......poor sods - they just don't understand.
