I Just got the CLS's today and have been listening to them for the last couple of hours. Background on my equipment. Krell KSA-250, Krell KBL preamp, Krell KPS20i CD Player, MIT balanced cable, and MIT speaker cable. Descent sub.
CLS are 1st generation with brand new panels 10 hrs or less on them so I assume break in time will make a difference in how they will sound later.
They are not on stands.
1st Impression
Oh Oh.... these sound a little thin....I wonder if I made a mistake...
All of the equipment was cold though...
Move the speakers a little bit apart and toe them in.
Sound stage is bigger than the Quests and deeper.
The speakers sound "polite" in comparison to the Quests.
CLS seems to need more power to fill the room than the Quests...
Upon initial listen Quests sound better.
I now understand how "rock" and "movies" might not be the ideal format for these.
I realize the subwoofer phase is not correct, move it to 90 degrees, much better integration, better integration than my Quests ever did.
1 hour goes by and much switching of music. Ok... now I see where they kick butt... classical, jazz, and vocals.... you are there.... the sound is getting warmer now as the Krells are now warm, and the soundstage is more laid back instead of in your face like how the Quest could be on some recordings.
The more I listen the better it gets... sometimes the more I listened to the quests the more fatigued I got...
The speaker definitely is detailed with space between all of the instruments.
I have taken pic's and will post as well as giving more details as the speaker breaks in.
As far as subwoofer integration I am amazed as how well it does, once again I cannot compare my sub to the Depth... I am only going by how the Descent does. It seems to integrate very well.
Happy camper... but now I am thinking about tubes.... arghhhhh.
