Hi All, i currently have a Roksan amp/cd set up with Lumley Lampros speakers, am very happy with it although the speakers are a bit soft on the bottom end, am looking at getting some second hand Martin Logans and need some advice on which model to get, could someone please list the models manufactured over the last 20 years active and passive, prehaps highlighting the most popular/best sounding ones throughout that time, i know thats quite difficult but i dont seem to be able to tie down all the different models that are available and there are very few outlets near where i live
Thanks
Dave

thanks Craig, thats really helpful, if you had $3000 to spend what would you go for, they will be playing mainly acoustic music, but may end up in a cinema, can you recommend an active option and a passive one, hope you dont mind i just need to start somewhere, cheers, Dave

With $3k to spend you should be able to get a pair of Vantage and be very happy.

You could also get the Odyssey model for 3K.Some prefer the older Odyssey and Prodigy models to the current newer models . A friend of mine demoed the Prodigy against the Summit and ended up taking the Prodigy home.

The vantage has it's own built in amp powering the woofer, the older models don't.

Cheers

Hello,
Given how much more expensive Martin Logan's are in the UK, I would be surprised if available for $3000. Also, is that amount in Pounds, Euros, or Dollars? If available, the Ascent i would be a nice choice. I really love my Vantages and cannot recommend them enough. The Vista's would be quite nice too. Would be hard to go wrong with any of the offerings from the ESL series.
Cheers,
ML

I like the look and sound of both the Odyssey and Prodigy. I have Prodigy myself. Bought them second hand...they have been GREAT!

You could come and listen to my Ascent/Descent system. Send me a PM if interested.

Seriously, get some Ascents. If you have space, check out the CLS. They are both reasonably priced here now. You'll have to pay too much for the Vantages.

The big problem with 2nd hand MLs is making sure the panels aren't shafted, so be warned. Oxford Audio Consultants is good for replacements.

I recommend getting a model with bi-amp connections and sealed, not-actively powered (for future flexibility) woofers sized for the room. So late SL3, Aerius i, Ascent i?

Absolutely you must get out and listen to other systems similar to what you're considering. But also be warned that even top dealers' systems suffer from awkward rooms, like the London dealer where I heard the CLX and Quad 2905 - yuck!
