Hey all,

My brother has Acoustic Research speakers over 7-10 years old. I can't find their website anywhere...it used to be www.acoustic-research.com or something, but now it does not exist. Did they go bankrupt or was taken over??

When Henry Kloss left AR, (I believe it was the early '70's) for Advent, the company took a different direction. They remained in Massachusetts for quite a while, I believe. I Googled them to see if they produce loudspeakers at the present. There is a website with their name on it. However, loudspeakers are found nowhere on that site. It references power conditioners, cables and wifi products - the end of an era.

WOW... I have a set of ARs in college... they sounded great pumping out some REM or Police with good friends and a few cold one... sigh

Damn I miss those days! I didn't have any good Hi Fi stuff then, but I sure miss my college days at Southwestern Univ just up the road in Georgetown, TX!

Good memories!

I had a set of RTR towers. Well, that was back in 1978 so don't ask me who made those, but I remember 4ft tall speakers... dome tweeters, mid-range, 10in woofer with a 10in passive radiator below it. Man, did they rock!:rocker:

Ted Nugent Stranglehold baby!!!:guitar:

Hi Thai,

This website http://www.classicspeakerpages.net/ar/history/history2.htm has a brief history of the AR speakers. I used to own a pair of AR303s. In fact I am using an AR amplifier in my study (A-04) which I consider as a vintage equipment. :haha1:

Transpa.

I just did some more research. FYI, the brand names AR and Advent are both owned by the Audiovox corporation. There are a couple of speakers listed under the AR name, but they are apparently cheapies with no audiophile cred. The Advent portion of the company produces no speakers at all. They market drop-down video systems for SUV's and minivans. Quel domage!

The large Advents were my first real hifi speaker. I had a double pair of them, and in their day, they were really superior.

Thanks all for the info.

Happy New Year.
