I'm curious ......... did anyone from the group attend this year ?

Back when Tim was active here he always provided excellent show coverage. Sadly he and Rich have disappeared. I think Rich is mounting a campaign to run for congress or something .........

Hi Dave,

RMAF 2019, they had it at the Gaylord Resort(YUGE,YUGE,YUGE), very close to DIA, which made things easier for me since I was picking up a friend to see the show. Usually RMAF took up what felt like the whole Marriot at the Tech center and the new digs made it feel quite small.

Went thru floors 11-8 and I think floors 3 and 4. They had a lot more of the larger rooms for various displays, and some of the speakers fit well into the rooms. My friend walked out with a reel to reel tape and my wife a nice harp piece on CD.

Got to hear and see some of the speakers I've been reading about, Rhea speakers and Raidho Acoustics. The Rhea sounded sharp and warmish all at the same time, but I'm not sure if that was Bryston playing a part as well. I didn't catch any Martin Logan Electrostatics, we didn't go back for a 2nd day because we were all tired.

I did see this and hear it, and it was a trip! It sounded good, looked so freaking cool, It had a sense of "fun" to it. I kept on feeling how it would fit well in a small NY apartment.

Nothing really blew me away at the show, there was a nice room with Esoteric and Audio Research and some $35,000 dollar speakers made out of granite that was quite nice.

interesting Mark, I've heard mixed reviews on some of the other forums. Myself, I haven't attended in over 5 years. I heard the Gaylord was rather pricey with $29 per day parking charges !!!

I went last year (2018) and had a good time in general. Show, contrary to the previous ones I attended on the East Coast, was not too crowded and could really get to talk to anyone you wanted to in every room. I thought the small rooms really did not help many systems. The room with the ML for instance was very underwhelming. I loved VAC equipment and loved the bigger rooms on the ground floor with records for sale. Planning on going back next year.

what you saw and heard last year was no comparison to this years venue at the Gaylord. Some of the folks on the other forums reported much better room interaction this year

Hey Dave, I went to the show at the Gaylord this year after missing last year. The Gaylord was awesome! I didn’t pay for parking either of the days I attended (Friday and Saturday). I didn’t take a bunch of notes like I did in years past, but I did snap a few shots I’m happy to share. Sorry I’ve been absent from the forum quite a bit, been spending all my spare time mountain biking, although I’m going to be planted in front of the stereo for an extended stint shortly as I’m undergoing TKR on my left knee in 2 weeks followed by the right in mid-December.

Anyway, here’s a few teasers...

Hi Tim glad you are still around. I had my left knee replaced a few years ago after 6 scopes for trimming torn cartilage. I would do it again in a heartbeat if needed. To many years of excessive running.

I would guess you have had other procedures on your knee previously. If not the road to success is rehab-rehab-rehab. It is somewhat boring but the only way to being active long term.

I am sure you will do just fine.

Brad

Thanks for the words of encouragement Brad. I’m not looking forward to the surgeries but I’m a big proponent of PT. We’ve got a Peloton bike and tread, so they’ll come in handy as I rehab, with a goal of being back on the bike in time for spring races once our Colorado snow melts. No fat bike rides in the snow this year unfortunately.

Here’s a few more pictures from the show...

As well as a few shots of the venue at the Gaylord. Soooo much better than the old Marriott down south. Better rooms, great bars and restaurants, easy access. I’m glad they moved it and hope they keep it here in the future.

Tim, welcome back !!!

Thanks for the update on the show ! Other than your knee(s) I trust all is well. Love the shot of the new Classe' amps, how did they sound ? what was your favorite room ?

My favorite room was probably the one with the Vienna Audio speakers flanked by the stacks of REL subwoofers fed by Boulder electronics. It had a fantastic soundstage and with the six subs it had an absolutely visceral impact when called upon, literally like a punch in the gut on big orchestral works.

I also really liked the new YG Acoustics Vantage in the Innuos room. They’re situated right between my Carmel’s and the Hailey’s in the YG lineup. Hard to call a $32K speaker a bargain, but at that price it certainly does sound a LOT like the Haley for $12K less. Were I thinking about new speakers (and I’m not), they would be high on my list of contenders.

I don't think you will have any problems.
I had mine in mid January and was cleared for any activity by March 1.
Unless "global warming :)" makes an all out assault I think you will be ready before the snow is melted.

Sadly he and Rich have disappeared. I think Rich is mounting a campaign to run for congress or something .........

Hi Dave. Paraphrasing Mark Twain... the report of my disappearance has been greatly exaggerated. I haven’t been on the forum in awhile. Just been focusing on other things besides audio lately. And spending too much time on reddit. But I try to check in on occasion. As for running for Congress, my belief has always been that anyone intelligent enough to do the job wouldn’t be stupid enough to run for it. ;)

Good to hear all is well Rich !! It seems like yesterday when we were all in Lawrence, Ks, good time ! That daughter of yours, is she a teenager yet ? Can't believe I've got a grandson that will be 10 !!!
