Hi-Fi Systems And Financial Resource Allocation

I agree with speakers and then amplification followed closely by the source AND source material. But I would then consider speaker placement and room treatments before cables, spikes, etc. Unless you have a very odd room or it's huge, a few hundred bucks spend on some room treatments may do...

New TV1 I finally step into the 21st centrury!

Agreed, Dave. What about the DVD audio stuff? At times I like to pop in a recorded concert - Clapton and Friends is one of my favorites! Erik

New TV1 I finally step into the 21st centrury!

For the last three years I had no reason to buy a nice TV since my roommates all had large flatscreen units. Alas, last October my roommate took a job in San Diego and the TV was sold. So for the last 6 months, or so, I didn't have any TV aside from a 13" tv/vcr combo in the bedroom. The...

    What a mess !!!

Great post, Todd. I also think the Fair Tax is a nice idea - sometimes the best ideas are the simplest. Our tax code is one of the complicated, bloated, and mind numbingly sophisticated pieces of legislation in the history of mankind. I can't imagine that adding 1000s of pages to the tax code...

For home theater - two Dynamo's or one Grotto?

I happen to think dealing with subs can be difficult, but at least you aren't trying to integrate two subs for music (many people feel that trying to get subs to work with ML speakers is a challenge). Legend has it that subs are omnidirectional, but I never believed that. I feel that you can...

    What to buy??

The Ascent is a fine speaker. This one is part of the older generation of ML speakers and they exhibit a different sound vs their modern counterparts. The older models can be bi-amped (separate amps for the woofers and panels) whereas the newer models (vantage, summit, etc) cannot since they...

    Amplifier for Ascent speakers

You can try to passively bi-amp your Ascents. Throw the Plinius on the woofers and use a tube amp on the panels. The only technical hurdle to overcome is making sure the gain between the amps are matched. Active bi-amping overcomes the above issue, but it's more involved. Of course, you can...

    Hello from SW Florida

Hey! I am from Naples originally. Good to see another SW Floridian join the fray. Welcome and good luck! You are lucky to have a really dedicated group of enthusiasts up there in Tampa. Erik :welcome:

    mc275s on summits

I think this is a fairly popular tube amp and if you use the search function you'll likely come up with a number of threads devoted to that (and other Mac) amp. Erik

Hard to believe it's been 25 years

http://www.usatoday.com/tech/science/space/2011-01-26-1Achallenger26_CV_N.htm A fascinating, and tragic event, that shaped NASA. I was just a few years old when this happened, but I studied this failure in college and then went on to receive 2 graduate degrees sponsored by NASA.

Christmas came early again this year. I don't think I could have stomached another Brady superbowl appearance.

    Lifetime Service for MartinLogan Products

Great news! I was sort of getting nervous about having to buy replacement panels (and put off other things on my long list of things to do/buy). This puts my mind at ease. It's so nice to ML stand behind their customer! Erik

    First responders ....

Dave, My old college advisor, the late Dr. Ludwig, used to tell me that we no longer vote for our candidates...we vote against. All of us would have to ask when is the last time we actually voted for a candidate, and not have to chose the lesser of two evils?

    If Not Logans...

Sanders' speakers are really something else. When I was at the RMAF, I only re-visited a handful of rooms, one of them was Sanders. With 200+ rooms stocked floor to ceiling with high end gear, you need to spend your time wisely (assuming you want to see/listen to as much as reasonably...

    If Not Logans...

Black Swan I had the priviledge to listen to these speakers at the 2009 RMAF. The price (~$30,000) is a bit out of my range and the CLX is likely cheaper (though not practical as I don't think I have a large enough room for that particular ML speaker). Erik
