    vista or vantage?

Used ML prices in the US must have dropped a lot while I was not looking. When you bought your Odysseys I thought that you could sell your Ascents for more than what the Os cost you. I was under the impression that your Ascents were a like new pair of demonstrators from the shop when you bought...

Did I buy the wrong speakers? Vistas bad for classical music?

I started with a Yamaha RX-V1600. The pre-amp in that model is worse than the built-in amps. Since manufacturers tend to have a house sound I suspect I would not like any Yamaha receiver at all. The 1600 removes definition and extension from the top and bottom ends. It generally muddies things...

Home Theater Center: Is Electrostatic Important? Mainly Voice, Right?

Right. You want to splurge on a center not skimp.

    Apple TV and outboard DAC

Quite a few members here enjoy the Squeezebox plus DAC as an audiophile source. Like you said there are other members who would not even touch such a combo. It all comes down to opinions and beliefs more than anything else. Objectively speaking there are many arguments in favor of a...

    vista or vantage?

ratso, like you suggest speaker placement is crucial and amplification very important. The effect of sources and the preamp is often underestimated also. Another question is if the Vistas had enough hours of play time on their panels. If they did not then that alone could explain everything...

    Interconnect issues

Yes, you can access some from the Zebra web site. A few others, mostly forum posts, can be found if you google. I bought several pair of RCA interconnects from Zebra. Basically they use Belden cables like Blue Jeans Cable, but treat them with TechFlex and heat shrink so they look good, and...

    monster power

Rich, no it would not. Capacitors are electronic components built to match certain specifications. A capacitor with a +-1% tolerance will have a capacitance within that range around its nominal value. From day one and no burn in required. In a given circuit it will charge and discharge in a...

    Greetings fellow ML owners!

In the other thread I saw that an internal connector was loose and that plugging it back in fixed the problem. Man, that must have felt good!

    monster power

Rich, My opinion on the burn-in of power conditioners and cables should not surprise you after a similar discussion we had on bi-wiring. Here goes. Burn-in is the time needed by the underwhelmed customer to convince himself that the expensive cables/conditioners were a good investment.

    monster power

Yes. Great unit overall. The H15 does not have the superb feature set of the Belkin PF60. I felt that source components and amps may have sounded a little better on the H15 than on the PF60s. I say "may" because I never attempted to verify this by switching back and forth between H15 and PF60 so...

Did I buy the wrong speakers? Vistas bad for classical music?

Tonal balance: the speaker (amplifier etc.) does not emphasize or attenuate some frequencies more or less than others. In-room frequency-response: the room in which the speakers play will emphasize or attenuate some frequencies more than others even if the speaker itself is perfectly linear...

    Amp stand advice

Ikea ÄPPLARÖ A few weeks ago on the way out of Ikea I see these in a garden display and think, Bingo! - Amp stands: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/00108005 So I buy a few for 25 or 30 Euros each. Don't laugh. They are made from real wood, will support the heaviest amplifiers with...

    Interconnect issues

Notes on BJC vs Signal Cable vs Zebra Cables Since two out of three have been discussed in this thread: Signal Cable is one of my favorite cable vendors. I have an Analog Two as well as a Silver Resolution IC (and several power cords). These are good cables with excellent build quality and...

    Interconnect issues

VDR, I'd go with short interconnects / long speaker cables, unless I had a real good reason why I wanted long interconnects. Really good reasons include, for instance, component placement constraints. I could also build a case for long interconnects if the intention was to use them as tonal...

    which bi-amp is more effective?

Adam, why do you need bi-wired cables? A bi-wire cable is basically a Y cable whereas for bi-amping you need two (hopefully identical) cable pairs per amp/speaker. Whether you bi-amp H and V does not change that. I must be missing something.

    which bi-amp is more effective?

Jonathan, I still could not find the Arcam white paper but as far as I am concerned vertical and horizontal bi-amping should be equivalent if the same make and model are selected and if both have the same amount of "miles" on them. Under these circumstances I'd probably go vertical for...

    Stax

Some members must have first hand experience with Stax headphones. The search facility finds too many threads which contain mere references to Stax, hence my posting. If I do buy I am probably headed towards the SR-303. But which driver? The three available sets bundle the 303 with a SRS-3020...

    which bi-amp is more effective?

Adam, Why do you think you need to stagger LF and HF channels in that way? If it really is to reduce stress on the amps then I am beginning to worry about your listening habits and your ears. Can you hear me. Hello? Hello!! Well, you get the idea. I'd simply start with a bridged config then...

    which bi-amp is more effective?

VDR, his XPA-2 amps are on pre-order and have been for, I don't know, 8 weeks now. BTW, what you called external bridging is commonly called "vertical bi-amping".
