What is the Best way to connect Decent i and which ends?

The answer is yes to all of the above. My preamp has dual amp outputs which I have one set of outputs going to my power amp and the second set of outputs going to a Y adapter to the sub. My surround sound receiver is connected to the LFE input on the sub with the crossover point selected by...

    New piece

Sorry to say I am on board with moving the amp between the speakers or very close to them. Balanced cables is the way to go, no contest! My wife complained more about the garden hose sized speaker cables than the amp located close to the speakers.

Jeff, As always, a great job on the latest issue of Tone Audio. It was a pleasure to finally meet you and spend some time discussing varied topics of audio while you listened to my CLS's. I look forward to visiting you next month in Portland to audition your CLX's as I know I will be...

Get out and listen to a live performance!

I make my living behind a camera and last week I photographed the Seattle Symphony orchestra. Every year they pose for a photograph and then I get to photograph the orchestra while they are playing. I get full access and get to roam anywhere onstage, just have to watch carefully for the string...

How to Guide to setup a new cartridge?

I have a Linn Sondek LP12 with Akito arm and would like to purchase a new cartridge but would like some help in setting up the cartridge correctly. It is a foreign language to me when I look at some setup guides. Is there a guide for newbies along with the tools needed to correctly setup all...

    Potentially good tube amp match?

Dave, I have a pair of CLS1 and initially had them set to the 4 ohm taps on my MC275 IV, I too was a little disappointed in the midrange, it lacked detail and seemed muddled, experimenting I switched to the 8 ohm taps and bingo a world of difference. Try it, and see what happens. rich

Audio Equipment Reliability - Tell Us Your Horror Stories

I started this hobby early. If anyone remembers Radio Shack used to make amp kits, I built one of their tube amps ran fine for about 4 years, then kaput... tossed it. I then built a Dyna 60 MkIII mono amp, still have it somewhere, but not sure where. Then built Dyna PAT4 and Dyna 120, Volume...

    Law of Diminishing Returns?

CAP, I have to go in for some minor surgery on the 4th of November and unfortunately I won't be good company for a few days after. If you come in anytime in December it is a go for sure, keep me posted. Sorry about that, and a quick note to tonepub, we tried to connect when I was in Portland...

    Law of Diminishing Returns?

CAP, If I remember correctly we spoke quite awhile ago about stands for the CLS and you have a business connection here in the Northwest (Seattle), next time you come to town let me know, I'll have you over for a few drinks and dinner and you can listen to my CLSI, C2200, and single MC275...

    Law of Diminishing Returns?

I started to get the upgrade itch today to add a 2nd MC275 for my CLSI system (1 mc275, c2200 preamp, Descent) then after visiting the McIntosh forum at Audiokarma I noticed a post where someone had just done "an upgrade to 2 MC501 monoblocks from a MC275.... Hmmmmm pretty much same price as 2...

    Why ML are not popular!

Like Neil, I have had several friends/guests visit the house and take an interest in the look of the speakers and after hearing them are totally blown away. I have had 4 converts to ML's after hearing them at my house. Most people have never heard of them or seen them. Amazing to me...

    Flac File Question

I had a similar task a year or so ago, and I just bit the bullet and ripped one at a time watching tv or doing other things on a 2nd computer. I ripped 20-30 a day and it was not that big of a hassle and had the whole thing done in about a month or so.. I would recommend you back it up 2-3...

I knew it would be a mistake

Stefan, I also made the same mistake you did, I tried and tried to ignore the CLX, but my curiosity got the best of me and I went to the Magnolia Hi-Fi store in North Seattle, the CLX's demoed last Friday at a suburb in Seattle, got moved to a store closer to my work... so I just came back from...

Adding to the CLS love fest...

Craig, I waited over a year to find a pair of CLS's that were only 140 miles away. They do come up on Ebay also, there is a tendency to grow impatient while waiting, as I almost drove 1000 miles each way to get a pair. They are definitely worth the wait, but watch out for the urge to upgrade...
