    System #42 (Aerius)

Thanks, it's been a long strange trip. Been busy with reciprocating saw and wrecking bars. That post stays until I frame the stair opening the way it should have been done by the previous owner.

    Playing With Subs and Expressions

The frustrating thing for me is the size of my M&K sub. That is why I have the back, top and sides covered in sound absorbing materials. I did sketches of repurposing dual driver push/pull to be a lower profile teardrop or conga drum on it's side shape. First I will just point the bottom at...

    System #42 (Aerius)

UPDATE: 05/21/2020 Seven years since I updated this thread, lots has happened. I kind of withdrew from the hobby about the time of my last post, just needed a more active lifestyle I guess. We lived in the same house for 27 years and it was shrinking in on me, had to get out more. We moved...

    Playing With Subs and Expressions

If you would like to do some white paper reading click the link below by The Sound Doctor (Barry Ober). http://soundoctor.com/whitepapers/subs.htm I do not agree with everything he says, but a lot of it I do. In short: 1. There is no stereo bass, it just is not mixed that way in the studio...

for the Love of a good Cigar !!

Just saw my post from 2012 where I say that I don't smoke very often, man that has changed - trying to cut down from one a day. Local cigar lounge has a batch of Gran Habano #5 Corojo's that are off the hook, this $7.00 cigar tastes just as good as another favorite but a rare treat at $17.00...

Room Acoustics - Absorption Panels Behind ML's

My speakers used to be against a staircase with open balusters. I built a homosote/plywood wall with perforated metal diffusion and oak grid/trim will with batt insulation with weep holes to trap sound waves behind the speakers. That was in addition to treating all the obstructions in between...

Room Acoustics - Absorption Panels Behind ML's

http://www.martinloganowners.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=18515&d=1460914059 Just my opinion, and I might be in the minority here, but diffusion or nothing at all behind the speakers, and as much absorption as the wife will allow in between the speakers. As a guy with a fireplace...

Crack The Sky... Anyone ever heard of them?

Crack the Sky..................Yes I remember them. In High school 1975-1976 in 10th grade I think, I did an album cover in art class with their name on it. I called it the "Over the Bridge" LP something they never actually did. It had a flying saucer flying over a bridge in a post apocalyptic...

Wish I was there to see that happen, what a POS that boy was.

Is the Martin Logan brand declining?

I haven't tinkered with it in a couple of years, the rubber seals on the fuel tank went so it could not suck up gas, then the pull rope broke. Glorious plans for it, but it sits in wait. Also sitting in wait for a resistor upgrade to get working again are my two SE-100 Golden Tube Audio amps...

    Obsessive hobbies....

Great hobbies and amazing woodworking guys. I share far too many of these hobbies and they start to take over my small living space. That and the fact that I have not moved in 25 years, and stuff just sort of piles up. My goal is to streamline a bit and get uncluttered, that will be my new...

Is the Martin Logan brand declining?

Could just be a matter of demographics. As I've gotten older I've changed my hobbies from sitting ones (stereo listening, driving an old Porsche) to more active ones in an attempt to get into shape. As a result I've taken over six inches off my waist. Perhaps there are other people doing the...

Three-Dimensional Mid-Air Acoustic Manipulation: Acoustic Levitation

Science catches up to legend? Tibetan Monks levitate stones by using an acoustic levitation technique with the aid of drams in this 1939 sketch by Swedish aircraft designer Henry Kjellson. http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/ciencia/antigravityworldgrid/ciencia_antigravityworldgrid08.htm

    Long wall - short wall

I like to use 1/4" squared graph paper, each square equals a foot and freehand it. You can then scan it or take a photo of it, and then post it in the forum. There are lots of programs out there for people who feel that they cannot draw, I avoid them because it's just no fun that way - at...

    Long wall - short wall

A drawing would help. Sometimes just drawing up the two different ways will answer your own question and may bring to light previous unrealized conditions.

Does tube gear fully "warm up" if no signal?

I was told the same, warming up in stand-by with no signal going though them does little to nothing to "warm" them up sonicly speaking

Martin Logan - Super Systems... Seeing / Hearing is Believing

The rectangles high up in the corners are B&O RL (Red Line) series speakers serving as the front R&L channels of the HT system. I still have to re-angle them as they were the rear HT speakers at one time. There is a DIY thread on the purple absorber, too much glare off the brick without it...

    SS + Tube amp. Bi-amp

Thank you for the link, I want to replace the jacks on my PAS-3X preamp I have yet to restore. About your situation, I like tube bass. It's got more of the overtones and decay like real bass in my opinion. I'd stick with what you have for now and save up for that dream McIntosh.
