The only problem with the SMS High Pass is it is set at 80 with 6dB slope and cannot be changed. The high pass to the mains is what I was unsure of...and if it does have that, then great....that's what I was missing in all of this. Rarely would it be a good idea to not run your mains through a high pass if you're crossing over to a sub. Sorry to confuse things!
I have tried both running my mains with the High Pass and without. I now run my mains full range (not through High Pass) and the sound is significantly better. Again in my setup and my room.
Agreed!!! The Behringer is a great product at a great price. But it does take some extra pieces to make it work. In the end though it is still cheaper than the SMS and that may be an important point for some on a limited budget looking to get better sound.Yeah, the ultradrive is more of a utilitarian thing. not particularly easy to use and such, but allows for a wide variety of crossover and eq options. It does great with the sub (though the SMS firmware update allows for eq down to 5HZ, I believe, whereas the ultradrive only goes to 20HZ) but also allows me to integrate my arrays as well, and only costs $200 for a b-stock model. Doesn't look as pretty either
The wife was not real pleased with the addition of the treatments, but she has become acustomed to my "audio habit" and now just shakes her head and smiles.:haha1:I agree, if you can live with how they look, there's no more "ideal" way to improve the response than with treatments. At the low end, there may be cheaper ways...but those involve other compromises that end up sacrificing some sound quality. If I had a dedicated room, I'd be all about the room treatments.
Dedicated room....ah yes.....I can only dream about such a thing!!!
