When buying used, why is buying from the first owner a big deal?

I've been selling my Vistas for awhile, and everyone is overly concerned with whether I'm the first owner or not (I'm not) and I have no idea why.

Can someone help me out why who has owned it is more important then being is excellent condition?

I've had several people say they like mine but are going to pay more to get a different used one from an original owner.

What don't I understand here?

Its kinda like wanting to know the full service history of a used car before you buy it. Because these are considered very high-end speakers, the buyer would like to be assured that what he/she is getting has been well cared for. You can get that fairly easily if you're buying from the original owner.

Do you know who owned them before you? If you do and also know the reasons they were sold, you might be able to overcome the 'original owner' issue.

Perception is at play here and not much else IMO. The perception seems to be that if you, the royal you, not you specifically, bought them used you will not have treated them as kindly as an original owner. I don't get it either but that is all I can fathom.

Well in my case, the original owner bit off more then he could financial chew and realized that to not be in debt his whole life, he needed to sell some toys. So I picked them up.

They are extremely well cared for, but some folks just seem way too uptight about it.

Not that I would ever misrepresent them, but I'm sure I could have sold these if I had lied and said I was the original owner -- the speakers would have been in exactly the same condition.

Oh well. Second Owner Vistas, still for sale! Better condition then some first owner gear, not that ya'll care! :)

Try to find a local buyer, who can inspect/demo them, to alleviate any concerns. Craigslist is a great selling resource, if you have a local one.
