What musical performer?

If you could see any live performer (to exempt any non-living), who would you like to see perform live? Why? Would it be a specific orchestra, or a heavy metal band, or Madonna? A swing band, jazz trio, quartet, quintet? Yo Yo Ma, Lady Gaga, 50 Cent? A favorite progressive rock band, alternative rock band, or a folk singer, or anyone else you could think of? Just one, who would it be?

To get this started...I'd absolutely love to see Tom Waits perform. Why? His music speaks to me. His schtick is performance art and gets his messages across using the widest array of usually unexpected sounds. One of my country's best songwriters, up there with Bob Dylan and Townes van Zandt, in my opinion.

So, who would you see?

If I could transport myself back to when they were in their prime: Earth, Wind & Fire.

Right now: Sting (or Police, if they do another reunion tour), because I haven't been able to score tickets to a concert of his yet.

At any point in history: The night Robert Johnson was allegedly poisoned, to find out what really happened.

Tom Waits is a good pic, he is so hard to see live.

well if i had a time machine i would surely be seeing Frank Zappa in the mid 70's.

......but in the reality of now, Neil Young is pretty high on my list. i did see him with Crosby Stills and Nash, but never otherwise due to circumstance. the perfect Neil show would be 2 sets, the first solo acoustic and the second electric with crazy horse, and while im dreaming lets add a tripple encore.

The first real concert I saw was Frank Zappa and the Mothers Of Invention in '68, I was 11.

I'd love to see Bob Dylan and yeah, Neil would be awesome. I hear Mose Allison is still alive and occasionally doing shows.

damn im jealous! remember the date? i might have the show, i have a few that yr. i have 500gb of live zappa.

i saw dylan a few times now and am torn. one day he is a god the next he is terrible, never consistent. i think bobs shows depend on his drugs.

For a performer it's definitely Sonny Rollins.

For places it is the following The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in their home hall, The Concertgebouw, any performance in Bayreuth's Der Festspielhaus or in Vienna's Musikverein for the ultimate acoustic environs.

I want to see Disturbed do a cover of Dio's "Holy Diver"!!!! I know they could do an awesome rendition. :rocker:

I want to say Pink Floyd, Alice in Chains, Jimi Hendrix....but they do not qualify 100% for the living portion.

Oh...and Yngwie Malmsteen!! S.O.B.'s song is nearly the only song I cannot play on Rock Band (guitar on expert)! Capricia Diablo or something....crazy!

Every year I fantasize about making it to the CVB Annual Camp-Out in Pioneertown. Three days of (insert style here) music for music's sake.
I'd like to see "Low" live sometime too.
And get to hear/see live Gamelan.

I would love to see Carl McCoy from "Fields of the Nephilim" (one of my all time favorite goth bands), Pink Floyd / David Gilmour, and of cours I always love seeing the Cure and Morrissey / The Smiths. Also a new band with some of the old Nephilim members called "The Eden House" from England - amazing album!:rocker:

FWIW, i see a bunch of Pink Floyd picks, well rumor has it Roger Waters is taking The Wall back on the road this yr. he is also rumored to be doing it in full surround like he did last tour, just with the lessons learned from last time. this is not to be missed im sure. its not the whole band but....

The concert pianist Murahia Perahia playing music I selected, for a very small group of people, in a large living-room with a grand piano.

I have heard him play several times, and he really moved my soul every time.

I would see the late 80's line up of The Rippingtons. While they were classified as smooth jazz, back in the day that group rocked their live performances. To see people dancing in the aisles at a "jazz" concert was amazing to me. Check out their Live in LA album/CD/mp3 to get a sense of their energy.

Billy Joel. Because he is one of my favorite singer/songwriters of all time and from what I hear he puts on a great show. Behind him, Elton John, Paul McCartney, James Taylor and Bruce Springsteen all rank at the top of my list for the same reasons.

Best concert I ever saw was Neil Young. He played a set with his band at the time (the Shocking Pinks), and then another set solo. He had about twenty or thirty guitars lined up on stage and he used just about every one of them through the course of the show.

Melvins/Big Business/Men of Porn
A few years back the three bands toured together.
First up was BB, a two piece band, then Men or Porn played, and then the final act was the new Melvins line-up which inlcudes both the members of BB and the drummer for Men Of Porn.

Prince. One of the few I've always missed the tour.

Prince once did an impromptu gig at the 9:30 Club here in DC after a concert at the (then-called) Capital Centre. It was a complete surprise to everyone there, according to my friend who was there that night. He said that Prince played a lot of just off-the-radar stuff and it was fantastic.
