What Martin Logan speakers are produced in Canada?

I ask this because those of us living in the US should probably order speakers soon. The 25% tariff on Canadian goods is starting. I guess if we order speakers from retailers in the US we won't have to pay now, but once those all sell out we should expect probably a 25% price hike.

This post isn't meant to be political, but merely practical about saving $. Those needing parts should order now if it's not already too late.

However, tariffs on Canadian imports have not been postponed and are set to take effect on February 4, 2025. The U.S. plans to impose a 25% tariff on goods from Canada, with a lower 10% tariff specifically on Canadian energy resources.


In response, Canada has announced retaliatory tariffs of 25% on $155 billion worth of U.S. imports, to be implemented in two phases. The first phase targets $30 billion worth of American products, including alcohol, produce, household goods, and industrial materials, starting on February 4, 2025. The second phase will cover the remaining $125 billion worth of goods after 21 days.

There's only a 10% tariff on energy from Canada. As soon as the US cranks its own domestic production up again, that wont matter. The US was a net exporter during Trump's last term. I'm not sure we are now after the last 4 years. The US has massive amounts of energy to be tapped.

Today Trudeau agreed to work with Trump in shutting down some of the problems on the border. There is now a 30 day hold. Its a step in the right direction.

Exactly! Within the US most of the country is on a grid ( not TX ), and while power can be purchased from relatively far away, it isn't actually transferred from that far away place. It is more shifted.

For a remote area, assuming that you have adequate power lines to move the power from another source, there are also transmission losses over longer distances, so you both pay a premium and lose more energy. It's very possible that we don't have the infrastructure to supply power to some reasons of the country currently being fed from Canada.

Also if we had a long term plan to put in the infrastructure to do this, it would meet a lot of resistance. Power lines are considered eye sores by many and they devalue property. So it is extremely difficult to run new power lines. NIMBY movements have forced many "orphaned" US powerplants to shut down when local manufacturing dries up. Those powerplants couldn't find any way to export power.

This salvo of silliness has done Canada a lot of good. It’s woken people up to the reality that too much of our economic health is dependent upon an unstable, untrustworthy former friend who has turned on us. Other markets are already being developed as we speak. Yes, it’s easier to ship seafood via truck to Boston. But Japan and Europe are happy to pay the freight to get it there.

It’s American wholesalers and eating public who will ultimately suffer.

Look at Trumps entire career. If he was a soccer player he’d be the lifetime leader in own goals.

When ML merged/bought Paradigm their ability to manufacture subs and boxes increased substantially. Paradigm is a Canadian brand. I believe it’s one of the speaker companies (there are many) spawned out of the Ottawa Valley area because of the readily available federal NRC sound labs.

Most of these below would have taken advantage of that facility. I know McIntosh initiated their equalizer line after a visit to an earlier version of the facility and heard the shortcomings of their speaker designs. I have a McIntosh Speaker/Equalizer combination XR5/MQ104

Thanks. When I saw the news about the tariff on Canada, be being into audio, the first thing I thought of was Martin Logan lol. I knew that if I was looking into buying some of their equipment now, I would want to be aware of the tariff. Some folks dont pay a lot of attention to the politics in the world, and I was trying to save someone some money by ordering now before this sets in.
It looks like it all might be avoided if things continue in the right direction.

Hahahaha! Don't worry, I'm still in touch with reality. So many Canadians just find it sad that so many Americans have been misled. It feels like watching your big brother get suckered by a New York con man and continuing to send them money for swamp land in Florida, despite what you try to tell them. It's amazing what people will believe when they want to, regardless of how preposterous it is, and what they actually see and hear with their own eyes and ears. But then, I am viewing this fiasco from a distance, with perspective. You're in the middle of it all, like a fish being told about water and not believing it exists. It's OK, Americans are good people. Like I said, this in temporary, he is at the average American life expectancy now, and with his diet... Now if he were Canadian he'd have another 5 years to reach the average.
