Well I do not want to be disagreeable either BUT:

I have heard Mark Levinson, Pass, and other audiophile approved "high end" solid state in showrooms. I liked the ML that put out like 25 w class A and 300 in heat but other than that, oh well, to each their own.

I had a totally different reaction when I first heard the first cj pre/amp combo in the late 70's.

The best sounds I have ever heard were from a friends SET setup with custom K-Horns with TAD drivers. It definitely bettered my cj monoblocks and made them sound mechanical and dare I say solid state like for a couple of days.

In any event I used Hafler and Adcom as that is what my buddy and I owned. My buddy never turned off the Adcoms and after inserting that little cj and listening for a few hours he was toast and on the upgrade path.

I responded to the poster as I owned (hell still have em in my basement) ReQuests and have run high power solid state, medium power tube and combo of both.

I agree about personal choice and you can have you accuracy and I will take my "coloration" as that sounds more like real music to me.

Tube Compatibility

Great Insights!

I guess my question advances as to how many out there use tubes in
HT? I wish I had an opportunity to listen locally, so I really respect and
appreciate your opinions.

This may be a little off the current thread, but I just received a
Margules Audio ADE-24 (analog digital enhancer), and inserted between
my NAD C542 and Denon receiver. It really makes the ML's sing.
Sounds like instruments are more distinct, and the digital sound is less
harsh. I know adding another component in the path isn't always advisable,
but it does make my CD player sound better-at least until I upgrade.

I'm still intrigued by what the sound of tubes could do.:music:
